SENIOR ENGINEER: FIRE PROTECTION
Position Summary
The Greenville, SC office of Carroll Daniel Engineering is seeking an experienced Fire Protection Engineer to work with our design teams. This role will produce construction drawings for fire protection/suppression, alarm systems, and related equipment for industrial manufacturing, process chemical and distribution facilities.
Position Responsibilities
• Develop performance specifications for advanced fire suppression systems.
• Perform code analysis & research for specific clients and processes.
• Produce hydraulic load calculations, and sizing/specification of relevant equipment.
• Prepare high-quality construction drawings and specifications, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• Serve as the engineering lead on projects, overseeing deliverables and ensuring timely completion within scope and budget.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including structural, mechanical, piping, and electrical engineers to achieve integrated project solutions.
• Participate in project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, addressing their needs and providing innovative solutions.
• Represent Carroll Daniel Engineering at client and project meetings, ensuring alignment with project goals.
• Assist in the preparation and presentation of project proposals and progress updates.
• Provide technical support during the construction phase, including responding to RFIs (Requests for Information) and reviewing submittals.
• Conduct site visits to verify design implementation and resolve any on-site issues.
• Stay informed of industry trends and advancements to drive innovation within the discipline.
Qualifications
REQUIRED CAPABILITIES
• Utilize design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks to deliver efficient and accurate designs.
• Ensure proper integration of design data across various software platforms to maintain consistency and quality.
• Ensure all designs comply with local, state, and national codes, including ICC, NFPA and other relevant standards.
• Assist in obtaining necessary permits and approvals for project designs.
• Mentor and develop junior team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and technical excellence.
• Actively contributes to the professional development of the engineering team through training, feedback, and shared learning.
WORKING CONDITIONS
• In general, performance of the job has the Senior Fire Protection Engineer operating from an office location vs a project location so to oversee one or more projects at one time.
• The Senior Fire Protection Engineer will be subject to jobsite conditions and therefore should be able to cope with and withstand these conditions.
Education & Experience
• This lead role requires a Bachelor’s of Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection, and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with fire protection design.
• Active PE registration is preferred.
• Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks is desired.
• Candidates must have the ability to function as a project engineering lead, interfacing with other engineers, designers, construction professionals, and clients to supervise and coordinate the development of design deliverables.
• They must effectively assume a lead role at project meetings and communicate project and technical information internally and externally.
• This role may require occasional overnight travel to client locations based on project requirements.
