Job Summary
The Assistant Golf Course Equipment Mechanic supports the Equipment Mechanic in maintaining and repairing all golf course machinery to ensure safe and efficient operations. This role assists in preventative maintenance, diagnosing and addressing mechanical issues, and ensuring the proper upkeep of mowers, utility vehicles, and specialty turf equipment. The Assistant Mechanic also helps maintain service records, coordinates with vendors for parts and supplies, and aids in training staff on equipment use and safety procedures.

Essential Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Assist the Course Maintenance team in ensuring equipment is in optimal condition, supporting seamless operations
• Maintain open communication with supervisors and colleagues regarding equipment needs, repairs, and maintenance schedules by attending staff meetings
• Support and learn from the Equipment Mechanic while helping train team members in proper equipment handling and safety procedures
Effective Communication
• Clearly report any mechanical issues, safety concerns, or necessary repairs to the appropriate staff
• Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date repair and maintenance records by monitoring and tracking the usage and condition of the vehicle fleet
• Provide updates on equipment status and anticipated needs as requested by supervisors
• Work with vendors to source parts and support cost-effective and timely repairs
Innovation
• Learn and apply best practices in equipment maintenance and repair to enhance efficiency and longevity
• Stay informed on industry advancements and emerging technologies that could benefit the maintenance department
• Assist in following a routine preventive maintenance schedule to minimize equipment downtime
• Help prepare equipment for seasonal changes, including winterizing and summer servicing
• Assist in calibrating and adjusting mowing and application equipment (e.g. sprayers, spreaders) for accurate turf maintenance
• Support welding, fabrication, troubleshooting, and repairs on hydraulic and electrical systems
• Assist in basic maintenance and repairs of irrigation pumps and related systems

Education And/or Experience
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Graduate of a vocational technical school or post-secondary training in small engine repair or mechanics, preferred
• One to three years of experience as a mechanic, with golf course experience, preferred
Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations
• Ability to assist in repairing and maintaining all golf course equipment efficiently
• Knowledge of safety procedures and ability to perform the required role in emergency situations
• Lubricate and service all course maintenance equipment
• Inspect equipment for operating deficiencies and assist in performing necessary repairs and adjustments
• Help maintain repair records and establish safety procedures for equipment use
• Assist in managing an inventory of commonly used maintenance and repair parts
• Support general overhauls, preventative maintenance, and emergency repair work
• Help sharpen and maintain the blades of reel mowers
Physical Requirements
• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions
• Frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic, caustic chemicals
• Occasionally exposed to extreme temperatures, wet/humid conditions, electrical risks, and loud noise levels
• Ability to lift, bend, climb, stoop, pull, and perform repetitive motions frequently
• Continuous standing and walking throughout the work shift
• May need to use protective equipment such as respirators, gloves, earplugs, eye guards, boots and hats
