Electrical Technician - R18279
Provides engineering and management support to various work activities within the Department of Public Works in the areas of infrastructure (roads, drainage systems, traffic control devices, and others) maintenance, work planning and execution, and others. The position reports directly to the Public Works Director.
Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
Plans, organizes, and supervises the activities of personnel engaged in right-of-way inspections and permit issuance, infrastructure inspection and evaluation, and infrastructure maintenance planning and scheduling; performs basic engineering design, analysis, project management, cost estimates, plan reviews, and investigations in support of field operations; oversees the gathering and maintenance of infrastructure inventory and condition assessment data; develops and evaluates requests for proposal and bid documents and negotiates and administers various contracts with respect to field operations; assists in the development and monitoring of operational and CIP budgets; conducts periodic operational performance and service level studies and prepares technical, administrative, and other reports utilizing the PWAMS; prepares periodic reports on resource (labor, equipment, and material) use and backlogs as related to road, drainage, traffic, and other operations; interacts and coordinates with the Engineering Department, other city departments, engineering consultants, contractors, and local, state, and federal agencies; assists in the preparation of City Ordinances, resolutions, reports and presentations; attends and gives presentations during City Commission and City Manager meetings.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a degree in civil engineering and at least five (5) years experience in the engineering aspects of public works operations and infrastructure maintenance, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida or ability to acquire such license within one (1) year of employment.
Principles and practices of civil engineering with emphasizes on operational aspects of road pavement, storm water drainage, and traffic control; pertinent Federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations including civil engineering laws and regulations; terminology, methods, practices, and techniques used in civil engineering report and project estimate preparation; principles and practices of project and construction management; professional engineering judgment to achieve results consistent with objectives; ability to prepare complex reports and statements; ability to analyze work methods and procedures; ability to communicate effectively - orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees and the general public; ability to utilize computer hardware and software effectively.
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license.
