Job Description
Performs intermediate professional and semiskilled work in developing, organizing, coaching, and teaching the County’s competitive gymnastic program; does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor for Gymnastics. Supervision is exercised over subordinates.
Examples of Duties
Planning, organizing and implementing all levels of USA competitive gymnastic programs and services; training gymnastics staff; ensuring that proper equipment and supplies are available; ensuring that proper safety procedures are followed; preparing and maintaining records and files.
Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates gymnastic competitive team programs;
Prepares team warm-up and training schedules and conditioning programs;
Conducts safety checks on equipment and maintains safety certification;
Maintains open communication with Stafford Parents Gymnastic Association, gymnasts, and supervisors;
Prepares monthly team newsletter;
Acts as liaison between competitive program and the Recreation Program Supervisor for Gymnastics;
Prepares reports on individual and team progress;
Implements coaching clinics, staff meetings, and the progress meetings with gymnasts and parents;
Prepares and coordinates all competitive schedules, demonstrations, and team activities;
Instructs and coaches all levels of gymnastics classes and team programs;
Performs related tasks as required.
Thorough knowledge of the philosophies, principles and practices of gymnastics programs; thorough knowledge of the facilities and equipment needed in a gymnastic facility; thorough knowledge of gymnastics skill, techniques and progressions; general knowledge of human behavior, child development and positive reinforcement in a learning environment; ability to work independently and in a team environment and demonstrate leadership; ability to plan, coordinate, schedule and review the activities of subordinates; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and maintain effective working relationships with team members, parents, employees and the general public; ability to prepare and maintain detailed records and reports. Must be self-motivated, independent worker with a solid foundation of all levels of recreational and developmental gymnastics; must have the ability to work closely with the public; ability to prepare and maintain detailed records and reports.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by several years participatory experience in USA, high school or college level gymnastics; considerable experience teaching and/or coaching gymnastics skills and techniques.
Member of USA Gymnastics; USA Gymnastics Safety Certified, Certified in CPR and First Aid.
Education and Experience
Candidate selected will be required to successfully complete a criminal history and fingerprint check and will be required to satisfactorily complete a post-offer, pre-employment medical exam at the County’s expense unless this requirement has been completed for current County position.
