Product Development Engineer
Responsibilities:
• Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, customer orders/POs, and contracts.
• Create manufacturing drawings, manufacturing instructions, labor paths, and author internal procedures to flow down manufacturing requirements to the production team.
• Evaluate part and processing requirements against existing capabilities and propose capital expenditures for equipment acquisitions to stand up new processes or improve existing processes.
• Design tooling using 3D CAD modeling techniques and provide 2D drawings and 3D manufacturing data to internal or external suppliers.
• Design test fixtures and specialty tooling including stress/strain load analysis, as applicable, including but not limited to; pressure test fixtures, flow bench testing, load cycle testing, etc... using 3D CAD modeling techniques and provide 2D drawings and 3D manufacturing data to internal or external suppliers.
• Physically produce parts to validate manufacturing data.
• Compile AS9102 first article test reports.
• Author return on investment (ROI) reports for proposed acquisitions.
• Research and determine sources of supply for raw materials or services.
• Create requests for quote (PQuotes) for suppliers to get pricing on raw material or services.
• Compare new process specification requirements to current procedures and create requirements matrices to facility process onboarding.
• Create implementation plans, schedules, and rolling action item lists to stand up new processes.
• Create presentations with associated media materials to cover NPD efforts and present to company leadership and/or production engineering.
• Enter data into Cetec ERP system as necessary to perform job function.
• Keep work orders and associated documentation with each part throughout the manufacturing process to retain part traceability.
• Build product Bills of Material, determining required materials, sub-assemblies, and material usages.
• Determine product cost by creating material and labor estimates.
• Perform layout work, measuring, hole size identification, and hole location of all parts in preparation for assembly.
• Identify various types of fasteners to ensure proper installation and use.
• Assemble aerospace assemblies with fasteners and/or adhesives.
• Perform work in accordance with instructions.
• Load and unload components and tooling into an autoclave.
• Visually inspect parts & assemblies post processing to ensure conformance to work order specification.
• Sanding, measuring, and cutting metal to work order specification.
• Use precision calibrated measurement tools including but not limited to calipers, micrometers, pins, gauges, laser scanners, etc.
• Responsible for ensuring materials are picked to work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
• Layup and bagging of sandwich & laminate structures.
• Operate a forklift, overhead hoist, hydraulic press, CNC or manual milling machine, heat treat oven, autoclave, pin routers, manual routers, powered shear, brake press, standard mechanics tools, and pneumatic powered hand tools.
• Apply organic coatings (adhesives, adhesive primers, paints, and paint primers) with HVLP spray equipment.
• Apply chemical conversion coatings as required.
• Perform preventative maintenance on shop equipment as necessary.
• Adhere to packaging, preservation, handling, and safety standards and policies.
• Ensure work areas are clean and free from Foreign Object Debris (FOD)
• All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college; 3+ years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to understand complex manufacturing processes.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, & PowerPoint.Background and Drug test required.

The employee will be required to successfully pass the HCOA Respirator Qualification program as an essential job duty due to exposure to particulates and fumes. Ability to pass DOT Drug Testing requirements (49 CFR Part 40). Regularly required to push, pull, bend and apply pressure using hand tools and operate machinery.
