Assistant Professor of American Civics and Civilization Kentucky Wesleyan College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of American Civics, beginning August 15, 2025. Position Summary The successful candidate will join the innovative American Civics and Civilization program at Kentucky Wesleyan College, an interdisciplinary curriculum dedicated to preparing students for thoughtful public leadership, reflection on our nation’s civic legacy, and excellence in professional pursuits. This unique program integrates existing programs in Political Science, Religion, Communications, History, Economics, and Legal Studies, emphasizing America’s heritage, intellectual history, enduring republican principles, and the evolution of our shared political tradition. Faculty members teach broadly across these areas, contributing to the program's dynamic exploration of American identity and civic responsibility. Major Responsibilities Teach introductory and upper-level courses within the American Civics and Civilization curriculum, contributing to the program’s core and concentration areas. Advise and mentor American Civics and Civilization students, guiding academic growth and professional preparation. Actively participate in scholarly research, professional development opportunities, and community service. Engage with recruitment efforts, fostering program growth and promoting the distinct educational experience of the American Civics and Civilization program at Kentucky Wesleyan. Qualifications Ph.D. in History, Political Science, or a related discipline. Demonstrated excellence and enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching. Commitment to interdisciplinary methods, fostering critical thinking, ethical inquiry, and civic engagement. Strong communication, organizational, and collaborative skills.
