General Description: This individual will support the Controller/Assistant Controller in the process of producing accurate and timely financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, and annual audits and annual budget. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Prepare, review, and ensure timely submission of monthly financial statements on a statutory and GAAP basis. Prepare, review, and ensure timely submission of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements. Act as a key representative and contact in the annual external audit. Work with internal auditor as required and directed by Controller/Assistant Controller to assist in external audit and to complete internal audit reviews. Prepare and review external reinsurance reports monthly. Assist in analysis and understanding of reinsurance contracts. Prepare and review and ensure timely submission of reports required by regulatory agencies. Review and assist in preparing of consolidated budgets and forecasts. Oversee and maintain systems and controls which verify the integrity of all systems processes and data and enhances the company value. Review budget vs. actual analysis monthly. Provide cost saving and cost containment reviews. Facilitate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports in an accurate and timely manner. Respond to Controller/Assistant Controller and/or others as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate financial needs. Assist in supervising, mentoring, and training accounting staff to further develop skills and knowledge. Communicate with co-workers, management, clients, agents, and others in a courteous and professional manner. Perform other duties as required. Education and / or Experience: Bachelor of Science in Accounting required. Must have a minimum of 5 years of accounting and financial reporting experience. Property and Casualty Insurance Industry experience preferred including in-depth understanding of industry specific accounting rules and regulations and statutory accounting practices. Strong conceptual understanding and practical knowledge of GAAP. Public Accounting experience preferred. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office-Excel and Word. Must possess strong analytical and interpersonal skills. Strong general ledger experience required. Reinsurance, income tax and treasury management knowledge preferred. Strong knowledge of financial information systems. Ability to take ownership of assigned areas and projects, as well as the ability to work well under pressure. Must be able to interface effectively and professionally with all levels of personnel. Attention to detail; strong organizational skills. Positive attitude and strong work ethic. Licenses and / or Certifications: CPA Preferred
