About The College/Unit/Department
The mission of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is to seek, verify, and apply knowledge related to agriculture and the environment, and to disseminate this knowledge through student education and public outreach programs. CAES is among the best and most established colleges of agriculture in the U.S. In its classrooms, its Agricultural Experiment Stations, and its statewide network of UGA Cooperative Extension offices, the faculty, and staff of CAES are dedicated to discovering, teaching, and delivering the science required for healthy living to flourish in Georgia. Located in the heart of South Georgia agriculture, the Tifton Campus is home to 62 faculty, 25 post-docs, 9 undergraduate students, 161 graduate students, 400 staff that support programs in teaching, research, and extension. The campus encompasses 150 buildings comprising approximately 500,000 square feet, as well 5000 acres of farmland that supports campus activities. The Tifton Campus is a critical part of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and supports a portfolio of research projects that include both traditional agriculture and cutting-edge technologies that are vital to the future of food and fiber production. These projects include, but are not limited to, research on Georgia’s main row crops: cotton, peanuts, small grains, soybeans, tobacco and vegetables. Tifton campus researchers also conduct leading research in the field of irrigation and global information system and provide vital leadership in the University-wide Integrative Precision Agriculture initiative. The campus is also home to world-class Extension programs which translate the knowledge gained from the portfolio of research into practical, actionable advice which is critical to agents, growers, stakeholders, and Georgia residents.

Position Summary
The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Dean for the Tifton Campus (https://tifton.caes.uga.edu/). The position is a 9-month academic-year appointment (with a guarantee of 2 months of summer salary) located in Tifton, Georgia. The Tifton Campus of the University of Georgia has 630 campus personnel, including 62 faculty, 25 post-docs, 9 undergraduate students, and 161 graduate students, and over 400 staff supporting programs in teaching, research, and extension. The campus has 150 buildings comprising approximately 500,000 square feet. In addition, the campus includes approximately 5000 acres of farmland that support the three missions of the College. Units of the USDA Agricultural Research Service are also co-located at the campus housing approximately 20 scientists present. In addition, the Tifton Campus Conference Center is a focal point in the region for lifelong learning and events. Faculty rank for this position will be at the level of full professor.
Additional Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctorate and eligibility for appointment at the rank of Professor in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, as well demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and/or Extension are required.
To be considered for the rank of professor, candidates must have at least five full years in rank at the associate professor level. To be eligible for tenure upon appointment, candidates must be appointed as an associate or full professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrable national reputation to the institution. Candidates must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.

Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Dean and Director of CAES, the Assistant Dean provides leadership, advocacy, and vision in overseeing Tifton Campus programs in teaching, research, Extension, and outreach. Major responsibilities include:
• Promoting and supporting research, teaching, and extension programs on the campus, including the development of new programs in cooperation with the Dean, Associate Deans, and Department Heads.
• Providing administrative and fiscal oversight of campus support service units, which include the Office of Academic Programs, Facilities Management, Field Research Services, Business and Administrative Support Services, and the Tifton Campus Conference Center.
• Providing counsel to department heads on issues and performance related to programs, departmental faculty, and staff positions at the campus, as well as serving as the on- site administrator for support, coordination, and facilitation of programming at the local level;
• Providing leadership and support for the commodity and issue-based teams located on the Tifton Campus.
• Coordinating and facilitating programming and collaboration with the USDA-ARS, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and other partner agencies and institutions.
• Providing leadership for maintaining and promoting the overall campus infrastructure, which includes primary responsibility for maintaining and allocating campus space and field acreage.
• Representing the College as the primary administrative leader in the Tifton community and across south Georgia, which includes responsibility for public relations, building collaborations and partnerships with the community, and being the public face and voice of the Campus.
