Machine Vision Industrial Controls Engineer
Purpose
We are seeking a Machine Vision Industrial Controls Engineer to design, develop, implement, and optimize automated visual and optical inspection systems for intraocular lens (IOL) manufacturing. This role involves designing and integrating machine vision solutions to ensure precision, quality, and compliance throughout the production process. The engineer will work with advanced vision technologies, cameras, imaging sensors, PLCs, robotics and automation controls to enhance product quality, efficiency and consistency.
The ideal candidate has experience in machine vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence, Matrox Imaging), industrial automation and control systems. This position plays key role in advancing automation strategies for IOL inspection, reducing defects, and improving throughput in a regulated manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop and deploy advanced automated visual and optical inspection systems to enhance quality control and efficiency in IOL manufacturing.
• Integrate machine vision technologies with industrial automation equipment, including PLCs, robotics, and motion control systems.
• Optimize image processing algorithms and inspection criteria to detect defects, measure dimensions, and ensure high product quality.
• Utilize Cognex, Keyence, Matrox, or other machine vision platforms for real-time inspection and defect detection.
• Design vision-based inspection systems for quality control, including surface inspection, dimensional measurement, and optical characterization.
• Work with imaging sensors, cameras, and lighting systems to enhance detection accuracy and system performance.
• Troubleshoot, calibrate, and optimize vision inspection systems to maintain high performance.
• Develop vision system validation protocols in compliance with FDA, ISO, and GMP standards for medical device manufacturing.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory, to continually improve inspection processes.
• Provide technical documentation, training, and ongoing technical support for system implementation and maintenance.
Qualification
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 2+ years of experience in machine vision engineering or industrial automation.
• Hands-on experience with machine vision platforms such as Cognex, Keyence, Matrox, or similar.
• In-depth understanding of optical inspection principles, image processing, and defect detection algorithms.
• Knowledge of lighting techniques, lens selection, and camera setups for high-precision inspection.
• Experience with Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) PLC programming and motion control systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills, capable of troubleshooting and optimizing vision system performance in a production environment.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
• Familiarity with FDA regulations, ISO, and GMP standards for medical device manufacturing is an advantage.
Additional Qualifications (Preferred, Not Required):
• Experience in medical device manufacturing or regulated industries.
• Familiarity with AI-based vision inspection or deep learning for defect detection.
• Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and Six Sigma methodologies.
• Knowledge of advanced optical inspection techniques and metrology tools.
Physical Requirements:
• Extensive use of keyboard requiring repetitive motion of fingers.
• Extensive use of telephone and face-to-face communication requiring accurate perception of speech.
• Regular sitting for extended periods of time.
• May require occasional travel.
