About the Job
BerQ RNG is looking for an Wellfield Technician to join our team, responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing a landfill gas collection system while also supporting the operation and maintenance of an RNG processing plant. This role is critical for ensuring safety, compliance, maximizing efficiency, and maintaining equipment reliability.
Responsibilities:
• Regulate and monitor wellhead pressure, vacuum levels, and header gas temperatures for optimal gas flow.
• Monitor, tune and optimize the automated LOCI landfill gas wellheads, checking for pressure, temperature, and gas composition (CH₄, CO₂, O₂), as required, to maximize the methane recovery from the landfill while maintaining compliance.
• Inspect and maintain landfill gas collection infrastructure, down-well dewatering pumps, wellfield piping, and condensate management systems to prevent leaks and failures, and ensure optimal gas collection.
• Conduct gas composition and surface emission measurements (CH₄, CO₂, O₂) per regulatory and permit requirements.
• Maintain landfill wellfield databases and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
• Assist with operational planning and construction supervision of gas collection field expansions.
• Share on-call responsibilities with the team and respond to after-hours emergencies, including nights and weekends, to maintain maximum plant uptime.
• Assist with daily operation and monitoring of the RNG processing plant, maintaining compliance with safety protocols and regulatory standards.
• Assist with conducting routine maintenance on plant equipment such as compressors, blowers, gas analyzers and natural gas powered gensets.
• Monitor RNG gas quality and assist with troubleshooting plant performance issues.
• Support preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and optimize production.
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of site
• Respond effectively to emergency situations, following established protocols to ensure the safety of personnel and the integrity of the facility.
• Monitor, operate, adjust and maintain the wellfield and facility, as required, to maximize gas production in a safe and environmentally compliant manner.
• Comply with all federal, state, landfill, corporate and facility-specific health and safety and environmental policies and procedures.
• Ensure all permit & compliance documentation is accurately maintained.
• Maintain logs and prepare reports in accordance with prescribed standards.
• Maintain detailed logs of wellfield operations, including gas production data, equipment status and process changes.
• Maintain accurate records of wellfield and plant operations using daily logs and CMMS program, including production data, equipment status, monitoring and maintenance activities and spare parts inventory.
• Report process deviations, equipment malfunctions, and corrective actions.
• Ensure calibration of analytical equipment and maintain accurate record-keeping.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma required; technical certification preferred (Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical fields).
• Minimum 3 years of experience in operation and maintenance of landfill gas collection systems.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with experience in troubleshooting process systems.
• Understanding of process control systems, gas collection, and biogas upgrading technologies.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and follow standard procedures with minimal supervision.
• Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) (e.g., Maintenance Connection, Maximo, Fiix, or other platforms) considered an asset.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and SCADA systems required.
• Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence.
• Willingness to work outdoors, share on-call rotation duties, and respond after hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
