Hotel Hartness is actively searching for an experienced, efficient, detailed, and self-motivated Director of Engineering and Facilities to join our Hotel Engineering team.
Hotel Hartness is a Boutique Luxury Resort 73 Rooms, Spa, Restaurant, 16,000 Sq. Ft. Meeting Space, Pool & Extensive Grounds
Position Summary
The Director of Engineering & Facilities at Hotel Hartness is responsible for overseeing all aspects of property maintenance, engineering, and facilities management to ensure the highest standards of safety, functionality, and aesthetic excellence . This position will lead a team in maintaining the 73-room boutique resort, full-service restaurant, spa, meeting/event spaces, pool, and extensive landscaped grounds . The Director will implement preventive maintenance programs, manage capital projects, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and provide leadership to the engineering team to enhance guest experience and operational efficiency .
Key Responsibilities
• Leadership & Team Management
• Lead, mentor, and develop theengineering and maintenance team, ensuring high performance and professional growth.
• Overseescheduling, training, and performance managementof engineering staff.
• Ensure that the team responds to guest and operational maintenance requestspromptly and professionally.
• Foster a culture ofaccountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Preventive Maintenance & Facility Operations
• Develop and manage acomprehensive preventive maintenance programfor all building systems, includingHVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems.
• Conductroutine inspectionsto ensure all facilities and equipment are functioning optimally and efficiently.
• Establish and maintain apreventive maintenance scheduleforguest rooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, and exterior property.
• Monitorenergy consumptionand implementsustainability initiativesto enhance efficiency and cost savings.
• Capital Projects & Renovations
• Oversee capital improvement projects, includingrenovations, upgrades, and infrastructure enhancements.
• Collaborate with ownership and management todevelop and execute long-term maintenance and capital plans.
• Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and bids for large-scale maintenance or construction projects.
• Compliance & Safety Management
• Ensurefull compliancewith local, state, and federalbuilding codes, health, and safety regulations.
• MaintainOSHA standards, fire safety systems, and life safety protocols.
• Conductregular emergency preparedness drillsand training for staff.
• Maintain up-to-date documentation and certifications forboilers, elevators, fire alarms, and safety equipment.
• Guest Experience & Service Excellence
• Ensure all engineering and maintenance servicesenhance the guest experiencethrough seamless, high-quality operations.
• Quickly addressguest concerns and maintenance requests, ensuring satisfaction and timely resolution.
• Work closely withhousekeeping, front office, spa, and food & beverage teamsto ensure operational excellence across all departments.
• Pool, Spa & Grounds Maintenance
• Oversee maintenance of theresorts pool and spa, ensuring proper water treatment, equipment operation, and compliance with health regulations.
• Manage landscaping andirrigation systemsto maintain theaesthetic appeal of the extensive grounds.
• Superviseseasonal preparations, including pool opening/closing and weatherproofing facilities.
• Budgeting & Financial Management
• Develop and manage theengineering and maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
• Oversee procurement and inventory management formaintenance supplies and capital expenditures.
• Analyze expenses, forecast operational needs, and identify opportunities forcost savings and efficiency improvements.
Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum 5-7 yearsof experience inengineering/facilities managementin aluxury hotel, resort, or hospitality setting.
• Bachelors degree or technical certificationin Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred.
• Strong knowledge ofHVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Experience withcapital projects, vendor management, and contract negotiations.
• Proven leadership ability, with experience managing and developing engineering teams.
• Strong understanding ofOSHA regulations, fire codes, life safety systems, and environmental sustainability.
• Proficiency inmaintenance software and work order management systems.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work aflexible schedule, including weekends and on-call duty as needed.
