About The College/Unit/Department
The Department of Financial Planning, Housing, and Consumer Economics is one of the four academic units in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. It offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees with an enrollment of approximately 320 undergraduate and 90 graduate students. Undergraduate programs include Consumer Economics (with an optional emphasis in Applied Consumer Analytics), Social Entrepreneurship, Financial Planning, and Housing Management and Policy (with an optional emphasis in Residential Property Management). The Department is staffed by 20 faculty members with expertise in consumer decision making, consumer and family policy, financial literacy, financial planning, housing, and residential property management. Extension and public service faculty provide practical, research-based information to Georgia residents to improve quality of lives and communities. The department provides research and outreach in support of local government through the Housing and Demographics Research Center.

Position Summary
The Department of Financial Planning, Housing and Consumer Economics at the University of Georgia invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Financial Planning and Applied Financial Planning in the Community.
Position
Lecturer (nine months, academic appointment, non-tenure track, 95% teaching, service-learning, practicum supervision and 5% service).
Start Date
August 1, 2025.
Responsibilities
The faculty member will have a 95% Teaching and Practicum supervision and 5% Service, nine-month, full time appointment in the Department of Financial Planning, Housing, and Consumer Economics, but will be expected to collaborate across campus on teaching and outreach. The primary teaching assignment for the individual filling this position will be teaching the income tax planning and applied financial planning in the community courses. The hired faculty member will be expected to mentor undergraduate students, supervise students engaged in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, be active in securing external funding to support service-learning and educational initiatives, and participate in departmental and collegiate governance and professional organizations, and pursue active membership in relevant professional organizations.
Additional Requirements
The applicant must have a doctoral degree in financial planning, finance, accounting, consumer economics, or other closely related disciplines. Candidates with a master’s degree must document exceptional accomplishments in financial planning, finance, accounting, consumer economics, or other closely related disciplines and relevant professional designation(s) such as Enrolled Agent, AFC, or CFP® and must be approved for a terminal degree exception before hire. At least two years’ experience working in cooperative extension, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programs, and/or teaching federal income tax is also required.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, And/or Certification
Demonstrated expertise of at least five years’ experience in the areas of volunteer income tax assistance, income tax planning and/or community engagement.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
The hired faculty should be knowledgeable of the CFP® certification processes and standards and the Enrolled Agent certification and designation.
