MENZI (Walk Excavator) Equipment Operator III - Utilities Operations/Stormwater - R13450
Description
Under immediate lead/supervision and depending on level and assignment, learns to operate and maintain a variety of water, reclaimed water, and wastewater systems throughout the Public Works Agency-Water & Sanitation Services Department.
There are currently four (4) vacancies. All vacancies are in the Public Works Agency’s Water and Sanitation Department in Moorpark. APPLICANTS MUST INDICATE ON THEIR APPLICATIONS AVAILABILITY TO WORK IN MOORPARK. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL REMOVE THE APPLICATION FROM FURTHER CONSIDERATION.
The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future regular, temporary, fixed-term, intermittent, extra-help, or part-time positions within the Department. Candidates hired at the Trainee or Assistant level may be promoted up to Water & Wastewater Service Worker II upon meeting performance benchmarks, demonstrating satisfactory performance, and depending on the needs of the Department.
Salary
Trainee: $12.80 - $15.56 approximate hourly ($13.04 - $15.86 effective 7-2-06)
Assistant: $14.09 - $17.13 approximate hourly ($14.36 - $17.46 effective 7-2-06)
Educational incentive: Possible educational incentive of 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% per month based on completion of Associate’s/Bachelor’s/Master’s degree.

The work schedule is 4 ten-hour days, and incumbents may be required to work weekends and holidays.
Examples Of Duties
Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To
• Learns to operate and maintain water, reclaimed water, and wastewater systems;
• Learns to service equipment and keep related records;
• Learns to operate treatment plants and pump stations;
• Learns to perform water sampling and construction methods and techniques;
• Learns to read meters and handle minor customer service tasks and inquiries;
• Performs related trainee or unskilled duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.
Education, Training, and Experience: At the Water & Wastewater Service Worker Trainee level, no specific experience is required. Familiarity with computers is highly desirable.
Qualifying experience at the Water & Wastewater Service Worker Assistant level can be demonstrated by completion of the established benchmarks and up to six (6) months of experience as a Water & Wastewater Service Worker Trainee with the County of Ventura; OR, completion of twelve (12) semester units of college course work in water, reclaimed water, or wastewater and some related experience in the water, reclaimed water, or wastewater field; OR, possession of the required certification for Water & Wastewater Service Worker I and some related experience in the water, reclaimed water, or wastewater field. Familiarity with computers is highly desirable.
Necessary Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a current, valid California driver license. The license must not be restricted, suspended, or revoked. This information is subject to verification. Depending on assignment, the incumbent may be required to obtain a Class A California driver license with appropriate endorsements. Employees who hold a commercial driver license are subject to the DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
Requires the ability to stand, walk on uneven terrain, kneel, crouch, work at heights and depths, stoop, twist, climb, and lift up the 75 pounds; work safely while exposed to various weather and environmental conditions, vibration, confining work space, chemicals, infectious materials, hazardous gas, mechanical and electrical hazards; and the ability to travel to different sites over a large geographic area.

Written Examination - 100%: A job-related written examination will be conducted to evaluate and compare participating candidates’ knowledge of math, mechanical ability and reading comprehension. Candidates must earn a score of 70 percent or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
