Job Description Summary
Provides spiritual services, including counseling, public speaking, preaching and the conduct of religious worship as appropriate, on the campuses of Ringling College of Art and Design, New College of Florida and the University of South Florida Sarasota–Manatee. Leads and participates in a variety of campus programs and events as appropriate and/or requested. The Campus Chaplain is expected to work a flexible schedule of 20 hours per week.
Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide pastoral care for the student body, and upon request, for faculty and staff.
• Provide religious/spiritual representation on the campuses, as appropriate.
• Facilitate an environment of inclusiveness and respect for all faith traditions on the campuses.
• Be attentive to the spiritual journey of all students and staff.
• Foster an environment of care rather than conversion.
• Respect the ethos, culture and code of conduct of each campus.
• Recruit, mentor and coordinate volunteer leaders among students, and from the wider Sarasota-Manatee community (subject to approval), to assist in accomplishing goals.
• Provide regular and consistent office hours on the campus(es).
• Provide regular and timely communication with the Board of Directors (BOD) of the Association for Campus Ministry (ACM) on the establishment and progress of goals; and regularly attend and participate in ACM meetings.
• Work collegially with BOD of ACM as it exercises its advisory/oversight and funding responsibilities.
• Nurture and maintain ongoing communication with the liaisons at each campus, the Vice-President for Student Life and Dean of Students, and the Associate Deans at each of the campuses (Ringling College, New College of Florida and USF Sarasota-Manatee).
• Attend and participate in, as appropriate, campus staff and organizational meetings.
• Participate in new student orientation, first week of class activities, family weekend, student clubs/organizations, commencement and equivalent events on each campus.
• Organize campus events and memorial services as requested.
• Supervise the Campus Ministry Summer Internship Program, which includes recruitment, orientation, mentoring, leadership and spiritual development, in addition to site selection and weekly programming.
• Develop and maintain contact with students, faculty and staff on each campus.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
• Strong understanding of higher education and programming appropriate for college-aged students, faculty and staff from diverse religious backgrounds.
• Ability to support the faith and practice of a diverse community.
• Highly effective oral, public, written and electronic communication skills.
• Counseling expertise.
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering community and collaboration among diverse constituencies.
• Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
Minimum
Education and Experience
• Earned academic degree from an accredited institution.
• Denominationally recognized ordination or licensure.
• Pastoral experience.
Preferred
• Master of Divinity degree.
• Experience in ecumenical/interfaith ministry.
• Denominational/professional certification in chaplaincy.
