Job Information
Open to any current Municipal employee. If the person selected is not affiliated with the Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA), he or she must become a member in good standing within 31 days of beginning work.
DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste Services
HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday; 7:30am - 4:30pm
Example of Duties
Process request for new, additional changes or disconnects for customers and/or process cash and charge customers through the various disposal sites. Input data into billing system. Respond to and solve customer complaints and inquiries. Update and audit accounts, collect and process utility payments, reconcile and balance daily receivables, prepare deposits and backup of Treasury and generate various correspondence and reports.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two years progressively responsible work in a customer service, collection, or accounting environment. Skill to type at a net of 35 WPM and 10-key at a net of 150 KSM (see notice section).
NOTICE
Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference as allowed in the Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach a copy of their DD Form 214 to the application. The DD Form 214 must show an honorable discharge. Minimum Qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
In order to be considered for positions that require skill to type at least 35 WPM and 10-key at 150 KSM applicants must document his/her typing/10-key speed on the application or provide an attachment with this information.
If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
This is a “flex” position. Employees are generally hired at the entry/trainee level. When the employee meets the minimum qualifications of the SWS Account Rep II and SWS Account Rep III position, grade 10 and grade 11 (higher level job class) and management determines performance is at the full proficiency level, the employee may be “flexed” to the higher level job class.
Additional Important Information
Strongly prefer applicants with previous working experience in the account representative capacity. Prefer previous customer service experience.
