We have an opening for a Parent Educator to work in DeSoto, Charlotte, or Hardee County. We have an office in Wauchula but use facilities at our community partner's locations when working in Charlotte or DeSoto Counties. Bilingual Spanish/English and/or Creole/English is required. The Parents as Teachers (PAT) model goal is to increase parental knowledge of child and family development, increase school readiness, and provide early detection and intervention for possible developmental delays through the integrated service. Education and Experience Requirements are: B.A. degree required with course study in child development, family counseling, family development, or related field. Must have a minimum of two (2) years of program service delivery to high-risk families and children in a community environment. This position is an hourly, non-exempt, full-year position. Essential Functions: (Duties and Responsibilities) Recruit and enroll families into the Parents as Teachers (PAT) program. Conduct home visits following the PAT model, including the delivery of the PAT curriculum. Assist parents in the development of short and long-term family goals. Provide access to resources in support of family goals. Conduct assessments and screening activities for the family, parents, and children. Maintaining accurate and timely case notes entered and maintained within a web-based data management system. Participating in the planning and execution of group connections Encourage family participation in group connections. Participate in a minimum of twice monthly reflective supervision meetings with PAT Manager. Participate in family staffing as needed. Follow agency protocol for service delivery and personal safety. Participate in orientation to the PAT program for families and the community as requested. Participate in all training required for the PAT Parent Educator I position. Understand and follow established PAT service delivery policies and procedures. Understand and follow established procedures related to client confidentiality, related rules, and laws. Maintain required data on the activities and outcomes of the PAT program. Report on gaps in service and other issues identified during the delivery of services. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports as required. Training Requirements: Parents as Teachers required training. Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Must have excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills. Must have demonstrated skills working in a Microsoft Windows environment and use the Agency software within three months of hire. Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be sensitive to the needs of the low-income community, demonstrate culturally competent skills, including an understanding of the impact of poverty on families. Must be highly organized, accountable, and able to work independently. Must be able to establish rapport with staff and families and empower them by building on their strengths. Must work in a collaborative, creative, problem-solving environment with a significant emphasis on program outcomes. Licenses/Certificates/Screenings: Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License. Must have reliable transportation for work-related travel, including nights and out of town. Must be insurable under Step Up Suncoast’s organizational policies. Pre-employment drug screening is required. Must pass a Level II criminal background check. Physical demands: The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds. Work environment: The worksite will include a variety of settings based on work responsibilities, including a typical office setting, client home settings, and other settings as needed to perform work responsibilities. Expected hours of work: Hours of work and days are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Employees may be called upon outside these hours to assist with home visits or attend other functions of the position or agency as needed. Travel: Local travel to client homes and other agency meetings/training. PAT training, conferences, and other meetings may be outside the local area and overnight.
