THE OPPORTUNITY
Facilities Operations, a unit of the Resources & Development Management Department (RDMD), has a promotional opportunity for a Shop Planner. This position, under general supervision, is responsible for planning, supervising, scheduling, coordinating and dispatching maintenance personnel assigned to the Building Trades Shop on a daily basis using a computerized Facility Manager (FM) system and a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Other duties of this position include determining specific materials needed, ordering non-stock items, keeping accurate records of labor and materials expended, initiating, receiving, and distributing service calls, preparing requests for receivers for P.O numbers, assembling and checking all insurance and EDD forms, contractor's invoice, job proposal, and Auditor's P.O receiver for payment. The Shop Planner processes and certifies employee virtual time sheets, all overtime justification slips, and maintains various work logs. The Shop Planner also supervises all shop activities in the absence of the Trades Supervisor.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Will possess considerable experience and training in the competencies listed below
ELECTRICAL/MECHANICAL TRADES
Proven Knowledge Of
• Current construction methods, tools and materials used in the building trades
• Characteristics of and trade practices used in electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems, elevator maintenance and metal trades work; pertinent building codes
• Cal-OSHA building construction regulations and other safety rules and regulations
• Current building equipment and materials by name, manufacturer and source
Organizational/Planning Skills
Proven Ability to:
• Understand the amount of time needed to complete work projects according to each trade involved in order to plan effective work schedules for shop personnel
• Determine specific materials needed and order non-stock items
• Complete purchasing requests, requests for receivers, and process contractors invoices for payment
• Maintain accurate records of labor and materials expended
Analytical/Decision Making Skills
Proven ability to:
• Analyze costs of materials of various manufacturers and determine feasibility of purchasing those materials with the highest degree of quality and usefulness at the lowest possible cost
• Read and interpret building specifications and blueprints
• Analyze and summarize statistical information related to shop operation in order to compile reports on all work projects for departmental administrative personnel
• Determine when to call contractors for assistance as required when work exceeds County manpower
