Description
Cultural Facilities, Arts & Entertainment; SCOPE
This is highly skilled and advanced electrical work involving new installations and repair and maintenance to existing electrical machinery and equipment, both inside and outside the SCOPE complex, including SCOPE, Chrysler Hall, the Harrison Opera House, Wells Theatre, Attucks Theatre, MacArthur Memorial, and Harbor Park.
Work Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Evenings, nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
Essential Functions
• Installs, troubleshoots, diagnoses, tests and repairs electrical machinery and equipment.
• Performs preventative maintenance and checks on electrical machinery and equipment before placing them in operation.
• Performs new installations of electrical systems, machinery and equipment.
• Coordinates and works with independent contractors to ensure that work is performed according to specifications.
• Orders and picks up electrical repair parts.
• Installs conduit and computer cables.
• Tests and repairs electrical machinery and equipment.
• Supervises helpers in the repair and maintenance of electrical machinery and equipment.
• Requires considerable knowledge of electrical theory and application and of the principles of electricity.
• Requires thorough knowledge of the tools and materials used in the repair and maintenance of electrical machinery and equipment.
• Requires thorough knowledge of the occupational safety precautions of required work.
• Requires thorough knowledge of federal, state and city standards and codes.
• Requires ability to troubleshoot and perform corrective repair and maintenance on damaged or malfunctioning electrical machinery and equipment.
• Requires ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and to follow both verbal and written technical instructions.
• Requires normal vision and hearing, peripheral vision, depth perception, and night and color vision.
• Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, reach, climb ladders up to heights of 65 feet, and lift up to 80 pounds.
Education/Experience
Requires equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by six months to one year of advanced studies and four years of electrical experience. The preferred candidate will possess a minimum of one year of experience in a supervisory capacity.

• Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
• The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
