Bee Ridge Wastewater Treatment Operator or Trainee - R19228
Position Purpose
This is a temporary trainee classification used to qualify and train candidates’ under-filling permanent Police Officer positions. Participates in a Qualifying Training Program to learn, through formal classroom instruction, the basic police procedures, techniques, and laws required to perform the duties of a Dallas Police Officer.
Essential Functions
• Attends a 32-week Basic Training Course at the Dallas Police Academy, which will provide classroom and field instruction in basic police procedures, techniques, and laws.
• After passing the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) Basic Peace Officer Licensing Examination, will receive additional training in Dallas Police Department specific courses including Dallas City Code (city ordinances), and other real life police situations and functions.
• Performs other related duties, including special projects, as requested or required.
Working Conditions & Hazards
• When in Police Academy, receives training in classroom environment, in district patrol training and job performance testing.
• May be required to work nights, on weekends, or holidays during training.
• May be occasionally subjected to hazards and potential physical dangers inherent in law enforcement work.
Minimum Qualifications
Have at least forty-five (45) semester hours of college credit with a C average or better from an accredited college or university. OR A minimum of 36 months active service in the Armed Forces of the United States with an Honorable Discharge. Military discharge must be honorable under all circumstances. (Allowance for no more than 10 calendar days less than 36 months; more than 10 days requires approval from the Assistant Chief of Police over the Personnel and Development Division). OR Thirty-six (36) months of fulltime certified law enforcement experience (from date of receipt of license) with a city, county or state law enforcement agency and be currently employed or separated from the agency for no more than 4 months prior to the date of application.
Must be a United States citizen.
Minimum age: Be at least 19 1/2 years of age and not have reached 45 years of age on the date the Civil Service written examination is given.
No Felony or Class A Misdemeanor convictions.
Must have valid driver’s license with good driving record.
Must possess the physical/medical health to adequately perform the duties of a Police Officer.

Weekday Testing Process: Official college transcript (if using education credits to qualify) and DD214 (for ALL applicants with United States Armed Forces service) must be submitted to Civil Service at 1500 Marilla Street, Room 1C-South, Dallas, TX 75201 for validation. You will be subsequently contacted by Civil Service to schedule your exam.
Weekend Testing Process: Official college transcript (if using education credits to qualify) and DD214 (for ALL applicants with United States Armed Forces service) must be submitted upon arrival to the Weekend Testing Process. Contact Dallas Police Recruiting Office to register (1-800-527-2948).
Exam covers spelling, vocabulary, verbal, grammar, reading comprehension and basic math skills. PICTURE I.D. REQUIRED.
