This position is Recruitment Critical. Current Hennepin County employees who refer a successful candidate may be eligible for a $500 Referral Bonus. Referred candidates cannot be current Hennepin County employees.
Current vacancies are full-time, benefit-earning positions working for the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, located in the Public Safety Facility in downtown Minneapolis. These are not licensed peace officer positions. Please apply only once to this posting, multiple applications will not be considered.
Responsibilities of this position are to fulfill the statutory detention duties of the Sheriff's Office such as:
• Fingerprinting, securing and releasing inmates
• Conducting property and physical searches and line-ups
• Supervising custody of inmates and visitation; staffing security control rooms; making regular security checks
• Ensuring inmate pretrial rights
• Arranging court appearances; testifying in court; verifying disposition of inmates returned from court; transporting inmates
• Responding to emergency situations; performing emergency first aid
• Maintaining records on inmates; preparing jail incident reports Position is subject to off-duty call and involves direct inmate contact with the possibility of physical confrontation.
Education And Experience
To qualify, an applicant must be a high school graduate or have earned a G.E.D. and meet one or an equivalent combination of any of the following criteria:
• Two years of experience in corrections, law enforcement, or security; OR
• Two years of active military duty with an honorable discharge; OR
• Four years of general work experience, two of which must have been supervisory; OR
• Four years of lead worker experience, OR
• Successful completion of two years of college or technical college coursework (with a GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale)
Candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish, Somali and/or Hmong and meet the minimum requirements are encouraged to apply.
Candidates must successfully pass each of the following exam components:
Written/Video Examinations
Strength and Agility Test
Background Investigation
Psychological Evaluation
Physical Evaluation
Drug Screening
Oral examinations may be administered as part of the testing process.
Applicants Must Also Meet The Following Requirements
Must be able to work anticipated schedule of six days on, three days off, including weekends and holidays, rotating to all three shifts
Must be a citizen of the United States; must be at least 18 years of age; must not have been convicted of a felony; must supply background data as required
Requirements
Pass a comprehensive medical examination prior to appointment to ascertain applicant's ability to perform essential job functions. The general medical requirements include, but are not limited to:
Uncorrected vision of at least 20/200 in each eye
Corrected vision of at least 20/40 in each eye
Must meet normal hearing standards
Must not have cardiovascular problems, including hypertension
Must be able to identify primary colors
Must not have any respiratory impairment
