Packaging Specialist - 2nd Shift

Reports To: Packaging Manager Exemption: Non-Exempt
Position Purpose: The Packaging Technician I ensures the efficient operation of packaging machinery, maintains quality standards, adheres to safety protocols, and supports continuous improvement initiatives within the packaging department. This is a 2nd shift position with working hours from 1:30pm to 9:30pm.
Duties And Responsibilities
• Quality Assurance
• Perform quality checks at designated frequencies for operator mechanic positions.
• Understand and explain quality standards for the specific role, ensuring clarity on what constitutes high quality.
• Identify quality defects in materials, finished goods, and raw ingredients.
• Notify Shift Supervisor and Packaging Manager of any defects and initiate supplier complaint processes when necessary.
• Machine Operation and Maintenance
• Specialize in operating at least one machine on the packaging line (filler, cartoner, keg line) including start-up, operation, shutdown, and changeovers.
• Complete training on specialized machines and operate them independently, providing support and instruction to others as needed.
• Perform routine maintenance inspections and lubrication tasks as per Maintain X work orders.
• Utilize SOPs for maintenance activities to uphold quality standards.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and collaborate with packaging maintenance to resolve them.
• Execute running adjustments and changeovers following SOPs.
• Work Order Management
• Consistently submit and write detailed work orders within Maintain X to ensure accurate and actionable information for the team.
• Complete daily end-of-shift checklists accurately and promptly.
• Perform weekly deep cleans on packaging equipment, maintaining a clean and organized work area following the "clean as we go" ethos.
• Communication and Collaboration
• Utilize the Vorne board and communicate downtime with the filler operator and Shift Lead.
• Discuss material defects with the Packaging Manager and understand the daily Obeer production schedule to make necessary adjustments.
• Ensure seamless shift transitions by effectively communicating any issues to the next shift.
Requirements
Qualifications:
• High school diploma, or equivalent
• Minimum of 1-2 years in a packaging or manufacturing environment preferred.
• Strong understanding of machinery operation and maintenance.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Good communication skills and ability to work well in a team.
• Ability to follow SOPs and safety protocols diligently.
