Under the direct supervision of the assigned Chief Range Safety Officer, this position ensures the safety of participants and provides exceptional customer service for visitors and participants at the Knights Trail Park Gun Range. Range Officer enforces and ensures all policies, rules, and regulations mandated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Sarasota County Parks and Recreation.
Job Description
Enforces all gun range rules and regulations mandated by the FWC and Sarasota County to ensure patron and staff safety. Range Safety Officer (RSO) must monitor all activity on the shooting lines at all times. RSO must be a self-motivated individual who is able to work without constant directions. Range Safety Officer must have expansive knowledge about the operation of firearms and ammunition. Ensures safety precautions are observed and is capable of performing CPR/First Aid/AED.
Provide quality customer service to range patrons. Communicate in a professional and courteous manner with all park patrons and staff. Range Safety Officer will provide Range Orientation for new members and patrons. Explain all range policies regulations, answer any weapon or ammunition inquiries, and to provide advice on safe shooting techniques. Assists customers with appropriate lane and target operation.
Handles all transactions for gun range entry regarding patrons and certified instructors. Utilize RecTrac recreational software for credit card transactions and reservations. Maintain retail inventory and facility supplies. Also, responsible to maintain timecards and check e-mails on a daily basis.
RSO will communicate with the Chief Range Safety Officer (CRSO) to report any building, baffles, or necessary range maintenance. Also, notify CRSO of any range related items that need to be ordered including but not limited to cardboard for target, targets, eye protection, hearing protection for patrons and staff. RSO will maintain and clean on-site facilities including offices, restrooms, parking lot, etc.
Assists with oversight, scheduling, and monitoring Knights Trail Park Range Volunteers. RSO’s ensure all volunteers complete all required range certifications and complete a mandatory 40hr onsite training program. Responsible to record and maintain volunteer records. RSO will ensure working in team-oriented environment. Act as liaisons with the FWC and Sarasota County Sheriff is to ensure compliance with the agencies policies and to address any concerns with the range or ranges patrons.
Work Hours: 40 Hours Per Week - 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. - Wednesday – Sunday
About You
Minimum Qualifications: A High School Diploma or its equivalent and one year of experience in the field of range safety. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License at the time of hire. CPR/First Aid/AED Certification and Range Safety Officer Certification will be required within 90 days from date of hire.
Preferred Qualifications: Range Safety Officer Certification preferred. Experience with RecTrac registration software, high level customer service experience preferred.
Job Competencies
Experience in working with the public; ability to work independently, ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
Knowledge of firearms and their safety handling.
Ability to provide firearm safety instruction to the public.
Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
