This is advanced skilled work in the maintenance, construction, and repair of stormwater conveyance systems and appurtenances.
Job Description
Depending on the needs of the organization and the unit assigned to, this position may be required to perform tasks in the following skilled areas:
Performs stormwater conveyance system maintenance on all county canals, lakes, ponds and ditches. Restores road rights-of-way and properties relating to stormwater maintenance and repairs.
Performs functions needed to apply herbicides to both aquatic and terrestrial weedy plants in County canals, lakes, ponds, ditches, road rights-of-way and properties; various forms of manually operated equipment may also be employed to complete job tasks required for the position. Evaluates all job sites and utilizes I.P.M. practices wherever and whenever possible; manual removes and plants terrestrial and aquatic vegetation and may require physically entering aquatic sites when necessary.
Operates specialized equipment, such as backhoes, excavators, arm mowers and other related equipment required to maintain and repair stormwater conveyance systems and road right-of-way maintenance/construction.
Responds to customer complaints relating to stormwater systems, including canal and ditch blockages, erosion control. Issues on and around road rights of-way, water quality concerns and stormwater flow concerns.
Maintains equipment and vehicles as assigned.
Completes and submits work orders relating to all work performed in a professional and timely fashion.
Responds to emergency situations as required.
Work Hours: Tuesday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. *On-Call Required.
About You
Minimum Qualifications:
A High School Diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years of experience in the construction, maintenance and repair of stormwater conveyance systems and /or road right-of-way areas.
Experience in operating equipment used for the maintenance and repair of water conveyance systems and road right-of-way areas.
Must be able to acquire Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Job Competencies: Knowledge of current technology in storm water distribution systems and road right of way maintenance practices. Knowledge of safe operation of specialized tools and equipment used in the maintenance storm water conveyance system and road right of way maintenance and repair. Operation of backhoe, excavators, arm mower, trencher, personal computers and mechanical tools used in the utility maintenance industry. The ability to understand and follow oral/written instructions.
Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
