Job Summary
The Medical Librarian plays a vital role in supporting the information needs of physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, residents, researchers, students, and other staff by providing timely and accurate access to high-quality medical information resources. This position requires a strong understanding of medical literature, excellent research skills, and the ability to effectively educate and train users on information retrieval and management. This position is responsible for promoting the value of the medical library by informing clinicians of evidence-based practice knowledge and innovation in healthcare. The Medical Librarian works in collaboration and under the direction of the Medical Librarian Manager.
Required Qualifications
- Require a master's degree in library, information science, or other relevant area of study.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefer 2 years of experience as a Medical Librarian or other relevant experience preferably within a hospital or academic medical center setting.
- Prefer the ability to manage day-to-day library operations and work independently.
- Prefer familiarity with electronic resources in support of content management and other library services including evidence-based practice services, information services, and interlibrary loan services.
- Prefer the ability to collaborate with departments, clinicians, and others in support of research, education, and marketing of library services through excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Prefer demonstrated familiarity with and ability to provide oversight, instruction and maintenance of electronic subscription resources such as EBSCO Discovery Services, Clinical Key Flex, Clinical Key-Nursing, UpToDate-LexiDrug, Dynamic Health, DynaMedex, etc.
- Prefer demonstrated familiarity with conducting basic literature searches with a variety of medical topics using relevant databases such as PubMed, MEDLINE, CINAHL, Ovid, JBI, Cochrane Library, etc.
- Prefer demonstrated eagerness to explore and implement innovative technologies and trends in medical librarianship to enhance current services.
- Prefer demonstrated proficiency in project and time management skills with the ability to prioritize or re-prioritize duties.
