Description
Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks to assist in the operation of the Medical Center Inpatient or Outpatient Pharmacy.
Some vacancies may be Per Diem positions, which involve working on an as-needed basis, to supplement staffing needs. Per Diem personnel may be transitioned into regular positions without re-competing as long as they meet the existing minimum qualifications and are performing satisfactorily. A new internal County application may be required to verify minimum employment standards.
Per Diem classifications are further distinguished from regular classifications in that incumbents hired into these classifications receive limited benefits (these benefits may vary, depending upon the classification and Memorandum of Agreement). Incumbents hired into these positions are not guaranteed any specific number of work hours per biweekly pay period, and management has the authority to relieve them from duty when there is insufficient work.
Salary Ranges For Regular Positions
Pharmacy Technician I: $10.38 - 14.52 per hour
Pharmacy Technician II: $11.47 - 16.01 per hour
Per Diem Salary Rate
Per Diem Pharmacy Technician II: $17.78 per hour
The list developed from this recruitment may be used to hire future regular and Per Diem employees in various locations.

Examples Of Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
• Compounds and prepares medications and solutions, and distributes supplies.
• Assists in the unit-dose medication distribution system.
• Assists in the admixture of parenteral solutions, including:
I.V. piggyback medications (IVPB)
large volume parenteral solutions (LVP)
Parenteral nutrition solutions (PN)
chemotherapeutic solutions (CTX)
Specialty solutions (critical care medications)
• Assists the pharmacist staff in the management and control of narcotic and other controlled substances.
• Assists the pharmacist staff in the completion of JCAH unit inspections.
• Responsible for restocking and maintaining stock areas; receiving, unpacking, and locating on-shelves drugs and other supplies; and maintenance of the general neatness and cleanliness of the pharmacy.
• Maintains courteous professional communication with the nursing staff, physicians and other professionals giving information and instruction whenever possible.

Education/Experience
Pharmacy Technician I
Requires six (6) months experience in a pharmacy setting with knowledge of general pharmacy procedures and practices.
Special Requirement
Must obtain a current California Pharmacy Technician Registration/License within three (3) months of employment.
Pharmacy Technician II
Training and experience comparable to one (1) year experience in a pharmacy setting with knowledge of general pharmacy procedures and practices.
Special Qualifications
Must possess a current California Pharmacy Technician Registration/License.

APPLICATION EVALUATION – 100%: An Application Evaluation will be conducted based upon the Position Qualifications indicated above. It is important that the Applicant clearly indicate on the application form that s/he possesses all of the requirements. Failure to do so may result in their failing the evaluation process. A score will be assigned to each application based upon established criteria. Depending on the number of qualified candidates, a passing score of 70 may be assigned for purposes of placement on the eligible list, and subsequent certification and referral to the department for an interview. With either method, such score will be considered as the final score for placement on the eligible list.
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: Applicants may be subjected to a thorough background investigation which may include inquiry into past employment, education, credit, criminal background information and driving record.
Candidates successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year, or six (6) months for nurses. The list established as a result of this recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies.
