Overview
This recruitment will be used to fill Office Assistant 2 positions with the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office. This eligibility list will be used to fill vacancies as they occur. Most vacancies are full-time, however this list may be used for part-time, temporary, and on-call openings.
This position performs a variety of clerical duties in support of the District Attorney's Office, sections of which are located in downtown Portland and at various neighborhood sites. Duties may include word processing legal documents and correspondence; retrieving data from and maintaining criminal justice databases; working with the public in person or over the phone; reception work; copying; and filing. Employees should expect to frequently be transferred to various positions within the office and should also expect to be cross-trained on other positions in their work unit.
The environment is fast-paced, high volume, and exacting. The ability to organize and prioritize work and accuracy with detail are required. Staff must work together as a team under pressure; they must be flexible and able to fill in at any of several desks on short notice; they must be able to solve problems when a supervisor is not available. Staff must also be able to work with difficult people and people who are under stress in a pleasant and professional manner. Ability to maintain confidentiality is essential. Vacancies in the Senior Office Assistant and Legal Assistant classifications are filled by promotion from within. To Qualify
Experience: Two years of clerical experience, involving public contact, word processing, and input and retrieval of computer information. Recent clerical and/or legal clerical experience (within the last five years) is preferred. LEDS Certification, knowledge of and/or experience using legal terminology and experience in Microsoft Word is highly desirable. Bilingual in Spanish is also highly desirable.
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Additional clerical, legal clerical, or secretarial training is desirable. College level course work with emphasis in Clerical, Legal Clerical, Secretarial, Criminal Justice, Government, Law, Political Science, or a related field may substitute for up to one year of experience; AND
Other: Candidates must successfully pass a criminal background investigation and post-offer urine drug screen.
