Playground Inspector - Skilled Trades Worker I - Parks - R14905
Description
Serve as a Sr. Professional Engineer with Minnesota's largest county public works program. This position supports planning for the Hennepin County roadway system and reports to an Administrative Engineer in the Hennepin County Transportation Department's Planning Division at the Public Works facility in Medina, MN.
The Hennepin County Public Works facility is located on a 146-acre campus, situated only 20 minutes from downtown Minneapolis, just 7 miles west of I-494. Constructed in 1998 in the semi-rural community of Medina, the campus houses more than 250 Public Works employees and offers scenic walking trails, free parking and a striking facility that has been critically recognized for green architecture and natural light. The facility is a prime example of green architecture in today’s public buildings, making greater use of recycled and recyclable materials than any new public building in the State of Minnesota.
The Primary Responsibilities Of This Position Include
• Represent the county on various task forces, study committees, and at meetings with other governmental agencies or the private sector.
• Supervise the traffic and safety data collection area, including analysis of data and preparation of reports.
• Assist with development of the 5-year Capital Improvement Program.
• Provide support for project development activities such as the preparation of planning reports and preliminary roadway concepts.
• Prepare roadway operational analysis and recommendations, integrating systems statistics, safety data, capacity computer software, as well as other engineering and budget considerations.
• Project manager for the Regional Federal Transportation Project Solicitations, as well as other grant requests.
• Budget coordinator for the Transportation Planning division. The ideal candidate will have:
• A Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering and six years of professional engineering experience; or an approved equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Registration in the field of civil or highway engineering; or eligibility to obtain a Minnesota license within six months.
• A valid drivers license with a satisfactory driving record including no more than two moving violations within the past three years of licensure.
• Plan roadway projects using engineering principals and practices.
• Direct, coordinate and evaluate the work of professional and technical staff.
• Communicate well both verbally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county, federal, state and municipal staff, public officials and the general public.
• Collaborate with county and contract staff for successful activity completion.
Invitations to interview will be based on an assessment of education and experience. Qualified candidates will be notified regarding interviews.
