We manufacture bio-based polymers with a goal of replacing (yes, replacing) petroleum-based plastics. Our biopolymers are bio-based and made from renewable resources that are biodegradable and compostable. And we need you to manufacture this world-changing biopolymer!
We are hiring a qualified individual for the position of Polymer Extrusion Line Technician. This is not an assembly-line operation. You will become a member of our Extrusion Team, responsible for producing polymer compounds for specific applications based on client need. The candidate must have experience in training and supervising a team of extrusion techs and possess a strong technical and mechanical skill set.
Responsibilities Include:
Supervisory and training oversight of technical extrusion team.
Technical setup & breakdown of equipment and production line.
Cleaning parts of the production line.
Handling multiple materials.
Operating the production line.
Maintaining records of activities in the form of job reports.
Maintaining a clean and safe work area.
Specific Duties Include:
• Team management, team building and training of supporting extrusion line technicians.
• Equipment operation (set-up, changeovers, troubleshooting quality issues, production goals/yields and quality control).
• Assist in setting up/operating extruders and associated production equipment to convert plastic resins into pellets.
• Closely monitor all extrusion functions to ensure line is running within required operating conditions.
• Initiate timely line adjustments to correct quality issues, in accordance with operating procedures and/or troubleshooting manuals.
• Ensure lines are clean/orderly in compliance with daily housekeeping requirements checklists.
• Monitor quality control to ensure adherence to standards, train extrusion operators to assist with quality testing.
• Properly maintain and care for equipment.
• Initiate maintenance work orders on items that need to be addressed.
• Notify Maintenance Manager of maintenance issues requiring immediate attention.
• Comply with plant safety regulations and good manufacturing practices.
• Supervise and continuously monitor overall operation of equipment to guarantee safe and efficient working conditions.
• Prioritize and balance workload of multiple project assignments based on business and functional objectives.
• Set and adjust schedule according to demands of production.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Operations Manager.
• Perform special projects as requested and related tasks as needed. Successful candidates must be flexible to work both day and night shifts and overtime may be required. (We all work together to do whatever it takes to change the world!)
Skills and Abilities Required:
Minimum 3 years of manufacturing setting and extrusion process experience.
Positive attitude with ability to receive coaching and management instruction.
• Must possess solid problem-solving, interpersonal communication, and team-based skills.
• Proven leadership skills.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and maintenance skills.
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of working with polymer compounding and extrusion operating processes.
• Understanding of basic extrusion line protocols and procedures.
• Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Must be computer proficient and have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Ability to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
• Ability to lift 50lbs consistently.
Required Experience:
• Must have previous extrusion process manufacturing setting experience.
Other Requirements:
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening, background investigation and physical exam.
• English language competency required. Including listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing.
• In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
Education:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Technical College/School, or
• Equivalent work experience will be considered.
