Description
Develops, maintains, and administers a maintenance program, including both preventive and corrective maintenance, for all assigned vehicles and equipment.
Examples of Duties
Plans, coordinates, and prioritizes repair activities to ensure optimum output.
Inspects vehicles and equipment for safety and mechanical deficiencies.
Maintains contact with suppliers, vendors, and manufacturers; monitors work accomplishment and vendor effectiveness.
Recommends replacement of aged or worn equipment.
Meets with operators and supervisors to gather information to prepare work orders for mechanics.
Serves as liaison between mechanic workforce and vehicle operators/supervisors.
Directs data input and general operation of the maintenance management system software.
Prepares information for billing to other agencies for parts and labor.
Maintain records of completed repairs and repairs in progress and prepares routine reports.
Prepares and distributes maintenance management reports concerning repair status, mechanic productivity, and currency of preventive maintenance program.
Supervises subordinate personnel in the operation of the maintenance management software system and production of reports.
May assist in the preparation of unit budget by preparing proposed expenditure levels.
May be responsible for investigating accidents and preparing reports of findings.
Qualifications
Performs other duties as required.
High school diploma or GED is required.
Five years of progressively responsible experience in automotive maintenance and repair, preferably including experience in the scheduling and documenting of routine preventive maintenance.
Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Knowledge Of
The operation, principles, and methods of maintenance management operations.
The operation, utilization, and application of computer software to maintenance management operations.
Understanding of the operation and administration of a major automotive and equipment maintenance facility.

Planning and scheduling maintenance activities.
Reading and understanding technical repair manuals.
Maintaining and retrieving files and records.
Coordinating schedules based on data available from a computer system.
Understanding and following complex oral and written instructions.
Using office equipment and machines.
Directing a clerical staff.
