: The beautiful Southern California coastal City of San Clemente is seeking an experienced individual to supervise and assign work of subordinate facilities maintenance staff in the City’s Public Works Division. The position oversees and dispatches contractual maintenance trade services and determines specific material and supply needs. The position keeps track of labor and material and contract budgets and develops and reviews Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and other formal and informal bids. The position receives general supervision from the Maintenance Operations Supervisor.
THE CITY: San Clemente, incorporated in 1928, is a general law city operating under the Council-Manager form of government. The city is a popular southern Orange County beach community which enjoys a year-round moderate climate averaging 70 degrees, and is centrally located between Los Angeles and San Diego. The city is 18.5 square miles in area. The current population is approximately 65,300. The City has 200 full-time employees.
Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
The Position
• Reviews maintenance or construction/repair/replacement project/work requests to determine types of craft/trades required and supplies needed;
• Evaluates projects to determine appropriate use of contractual services;
• Estimates type of labor and amount of time required to complete craft/trade projects;
• Plans work schedules for contractors and/or City workers for projects;
• Initiates procurement of materials, supplies and equipment and arranges for delivery of materials, supplies and equipment to project work sites and locations;
• Prepares work orders and completes records on production and expenditures related to labor and materials used on projects;
• Leads and assists facilities maintenance workers in the completion of tasks and projects;
• Assists in the preparation of performance reviews of subordinate staff;
• Inspects job sites to ensure project completion and adherence to City, County, State and contractual standards and practices; and
• Prepares and reviews bid packages and assists in the selection of contractors.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
The ideal candidate will have five years experience in the construction and/or maintenance trades and the equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and specialized training in the construction and/or maintenance trades. The candidate will know construction and maintenance trades and methods; know the tools and materials used in the building, facility construction and maintenance trades; know general construction practices, methods and terminology; and know the process for managing contracts and developing bids. The candidate will be able to properly estimate time and materials needed for efficient completion of a job; will be able to develop correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, charts and graphs, using computer applications and be able to read and interpret blueprints and other facilities maintenance-related documents.

• HOLIDAYS – The City presently recognizes 11 regular holidays, plus one floating holiday.
