General Description
Supervisory and technical work with responsibility for continued development, implementation, management and functioning of the laboratory’s quality assurance/quality control program.
Essential Job Functions
Conducts all research required to remain up-to-date with NELAP/NELAC certification requirements, as well as changes in the Code of Federal Regulations, Florida Administrative Code, and Department of Health Laboratory Certification Requirements. Implements and maintains a comprehensive quality assurance/quality control program including preparing and distributing blind samples, ordering and distributing quarterly quality control standards, and ordering, distributing, and reporting EPA proficiency test standards. Reviews all quality control data entered into the LIMS by the analysts and investigating and correcting any out-of-control analyses. Prepares quarterly compliance reports for submittal to the Laboratory Manager. Conducts the annual internal quality system audit and prepares the annual report which is submitted to the Laboratory Manager as part of the NELAC requirements. Continuously reviews and updates the Laboratory’s Quality Manual. Continuously reviews and updates the Laboratory SOP’s. Randomly reviews the analyst’s bench sheets, quality control data, IDOC’s, analyst DOC’s, analytical graphs and chromatograms and prepares reports for submittal to the Laboratory Manager. Reviews and approves all quality control and quality assurance data associated with specific analyses before the Laboratory Manager reviews and releases analytical results. Continuously updates and produces precision and accuracy charts and graphs, as well as other statistical analyses, which are then available for review by the State Inspectors. Assists analysts in trouble shooting quality assurance/quality control problems and making appropriate corrections to their systems. Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Strong mathematical skills with an understanding of statistics and statistical analysis of data. Knowledge of the science of chemistry as well as a knowledge of the scientific principles and practices in mathematics, biology, and chemistry. Ability in laboratory investigative techniques, laboratory controls, quality control, and quality assurance in a laboratory setting. Ability to read Federal, State, and Local Documents with comprehension and the ability to implement the requirements. Ability to effectively prepare quality assurance reports, recommendations, and prepare any required documentation associated with the Quality Control Program. Strong writing skills for preparation of quality assurance reports, quality systems manual updates, and SOP’s.
Strong verbal communication skills. This includes the ability to communicate with the analysts clearly and concisely regarding quality control issues, quality control requirements, implementation of quality control programs, and corrective measures where required. Strong ability to conduct their required work without continuous supervision.
Minimum Requirements

Ability to communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, writing, and vision skills.
Education, Training, And Experience
Graduation from an accredited, four-year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree with major course work in mathematics, statistics, and/or the natural and physical sciences and one year of experience in a related field.
A comparable amount of directly related experience may be substituted for the minimum educational requirements.
Licenses, Certifications, Or Registrations
A valid driver’s license is required.
