Qualifications:
Required:
• Hold a valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate.
• Hold a valid Kentucky Administrative Certificate.
• Have a minimum of 5 years teaching experience.
• Have strong presentation and communication skills.
• Worked on a successful team.
Preferred:
• Teacher or building leadership experience in preschool or elementary education
• Instructional coaching experience
Knowledge Of:
• Basic computer skills including use of mouse and keyboard to navigate computer, e-mail, and websites.
• Knowledge and demonstration of sound instructional practice.
• Record-keeping techniques.
Job Description:
Job Summary:
• Coordinates the state and local preschool program in the district.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Improvement
• Provide systematic support for preschool programs
• Provide support and consult with school personnel concerning programming needs for all students
• Assist schools and students by observing students and recommending instructional strategies
• Review, update and implement the preschool curriculum
• Lead efforts to maintain state ratings for childcare providers
• Maintain compliance as dictated by the State
• Disaggregate and use preschool student performance data
• Recommend and oversee a balanced budget based on the needs of preschool
• Research and prepare possible grant proposals for preschool
• Monitor the effectiveness of the preschool curriculum and use of resources
• Facilitate the transition from preschool to kindergarten to ensure student success
• Comply and lead the special education referral process for preschool including child find (locating eligible children) and other requirements
Leadership Development
• Foster relationships with school leadership teams to establish a culture of trust resulting in improving preschool instruction
• Work jointly with the Director of Elementary Schools and the elementary principals to define and articulate high expectations for teaching and learning in the preschool program
• Collaborate with school leadership on the evaluation and monitoring of preschool personnel
• Cultivate a culture that supports innovation
• Assist in the district improvement planning process
• Participate in ongoing personal professional learning experiences
• Collaborate with the Early Childhood Instructional Coach to provide job embedded professional learning for preschool teachers
• Work collaboratively with the district’s leadership team to design, implement, and assess district change initiatives
Collaboration
• Work with Human Services to effectively recruit and higher prospective preschool teachers and instructional assistants
• Collaborate with local preschools to ensure a smooth transition into either public preschool or kindergarten
• Serve as the liaison with community organizations focused on preschool students
• Increase public awareness of preschool programs and needs of students
• Provide support to preschool parents
• Mediates as needed to solve differences between home and school
• Work with the Special Education director and department on meeting the needs of students with Individual Education Programs (IEPs)
