General Description Assist Recreation Program Supervisor and other Park and Recreation staff in coordinating, implementing, and supervising a variety of programs, special events, and leagues. Supervise seasonal staff, facilities, and perform office duties related to work. Work schedule will vary, including days, evenings, and weekends. Hours are 35-40 hours per week. Internship is seasonal from mid-May through mid-August.
Essential Functions of the Job / Knowledge, Skills and Abilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
• Plan, lead, implement, and evaluate a wide variety of programs, activities, and special events.
• Supervise, schedule, and evaluate seasonal staff.
• Develop marketing and promotion initiatives for the parks and recreation department.
• Perform departmental tasks, including writing reports, record keeping.
• Fill in as needed as a Recreation Center Cashier.
• Other duties as assigned or apparent.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of recreation programs/activities offered by a municipal park and recreation department.
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with staff and the general public.
• Ability to work with people of all ages and abilities.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule.
• Ability to provide good customer service.
• Good communication skills, both oral and written.
Education and Experience • Currently enrolled as a student in good standing immediately prior to and/or following the period of employment, studying Parks and Recreation Administration or related field.
• Must be able to work the entire summer season

• Valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements Work is done in a variety of places, both indoors and outdoors, depending on the activity and/or task.
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires standing and occasionally requires walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
