Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse Dept: Nursing Shift: Various Reports To: Director of Nursing FLSA Status: Hourly SUMMARY Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, the LPN shall perform professional nursing tasks on her/his own initiative, confer with an RN in-house or on call for assist as needed for decisions requiring professional judgement, or reporting changes in resident’s conditions, and perform related work as required. Vulnerable Adult Mandated Reporter A mandated vulnerable adult reporter of maltreatment, neglect, abuse of vulnerable residents/tenants. Required to report any alleged maltreatment, neglect, or abuse to your supervisor and appropriate state agencies. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. · Supervising non-professional nursing personnel, and when appropriate, evaluating non-professional personnel. · Is designated with the authority to direct all non-professional personnel in his or her charge to act in the interest and welfare of the resident on the unit (to include schedule changes, and job assignments.) · Is designated with the authority to discipline all non-professional personnel in accordance with the employee manual and the union contract. · Giving medications and administering drugs. · Irrigating catheters and catheterizing residents when necessary. · Taking temperatures, blood pressures and respiration’s’, and recording on charts and care plans. · Sterilizing equipment. · Making and accepting phone calls to and from physicians. · Helping nursing assistant with care of resident and caring for resident’s with special needs. · Assuming charge of a unit during a shift, consulting with an RN on call as necessary. · Maintaining records and preparing reports. · Making daily rounds of all nursing units under assigned supervision and performing such functions as visiting residents, reviewing of clinical records, medication cards, resident cards, resident care plans and staff assignments, and to the extent possible, accompany physicians when they make rounds. · Ability to perform manual tasks associated with the personal care and hygiene of the physically and mentally ill. · Ability to recognize significant changes in the condition of residents and takes the necessary action. · Follows instructions willingly, able to meet deadlines, organizational loyalty, honesty, punctual, and dependable. · Expected to respond to emergency situations involving the safety of residents, other employees and the facility. This includes the ability to assist with a possible evacuation of residents. MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES · Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation as a treatment/medication nurse or charge nurse ion the wing/unit they are assigned. · Ability to guide non-professional staff. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE · Graduated from a State approved school of practical nursing or equivalent, LPN training program. LANGUAGE SKILLS · Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS · Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY · Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. · Must be able to deal effectively with stress created by sick residents, multiple tasks, noises, interruptions, and work cooperatively as part of the health care team while maintaining a pleasant demeanor.
