The Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases ( CTEGD ) at the University of Georgia is one of the largest international centers of research focused on diseases of poverty. Researchers and students work together on some of the most important causes of human suffering around the world, including malaria, schistosomiasis, African sleeping sickness, Chagas disease, cryptosporidiosis, toxoplasmosis, leishmaniasis, and filariasis.

Duties/Responsibilities
Design and Execution of Laboratory Experiments: This includes the production and generation of DNA plasmid vectors, growth and transfection of parasite cell lines, selection and characterization of generated mutant cell lines followed by their storage and cataloging of these and all materials made during the process of experimentation. The process of mutant parasite characterization includes but is not limited to the use of PCR , SDS - PAGE , Western blotting, protein isolation, qRT- PCR and multiples levels of microscopic analyses.

Formatting and Presentation of Acquired Data: An important aspect of this position is the generation of published manuscripts and public presentations of recent results at scientific conferences. As data is collected, the post-doctoral fellow is expected to produce publication quality figures, appropriate statistical analyses, draft manuscripts and presentation slides so that the results obtained can be effectively disseminated to the public in both written and presentation formats.

Training and Guidance: As part of the training and development of managerial skills, this position expects the post-doctoral fellow to provide training and support to both undergraduate and graduate students as they themselves seek to improve their skills in wet-lab experimentation. This effort is essential for promoting progress in the lab, educating the next generation of scientists and for training maturing post-doctoral fellows in managing and developing junior scientists.
