Job Title: Medical Assistant Dermatology
Location: Parkside Pediatrics/Family Medicine Verdae Blvd. - Greenville, SC
Summary of Duties: Provides patient care in a medical clinic office setting. Assists providers and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as a primary liaison between patients, families, team and providers.
Supervision Received: Site Manager
Essential Functions: Works both autonomously and collaboratively:
Communicates with clinical, clerical and billing departments, providers, patients and families to ensure continuity of care.
Communication skills (both written and verbal) suitable to express the physical, mental and emotional status of patients and families.
Accurately completes and maintains medical records and documents.
Performs telephone triage utilizing approved protocols
Provides general nursing care to patients. Demonstrates acceptable time management techniques.
Maintains exam rooms and lab area. Prepares, stocks and cleans rooms as well as maintains supplies and equipment for treatment.
Administers/documents medication, vaccines, and treatments
Maintains skills and knowledge base through reading, training and other structured in-services.
Attends clinical meetings as scheduled.
Conducts self in accordance with Parkside Pediatrics employee manual.
Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
Assist dermatology provider during procedures such as skin biopsies, mole removals, cryotherapy, and laser treatments.
Prepare and sterilize medical equipment and instruments before use.
Maintain and monitor pathology results and log.
Perform minor skin procedures such as applying topical treatments, removing sutures, or assisting with minor excisions.
Administer injections (e.g., corticosteroid injections) as directed by the dermatologist.
Perform and assist with diagnostic tests, such as patch testing, skin cultures, and allergy tests.
Apply bandages, dressings, and post-procedure care instructions.
Manage and maintain dermatology equipment (e.g., lasers, cryosurgery equipment).
Provide patient education on skincare routines, post-procedure care, and skin cancer prevention.
Handle patient referrals to specialists as directed by the dermatology provider
Administrative Duties:
Monitors clinic schedule, ensuring proper preparation and pre-visit instructions.
Update and maintain accurate patient records using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Handle patient intake paperwork, including consent forms and insurance verifications.
Process billing information, including insurance claims and patient payments.
Respond to patient inquiries via phone or email, providing timely information or guidance.
Ensure a clean and organized office environment, including waiting and exam rooms.
Education: High School Diploma or GED. Preferably at least 2 years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant. If no experience, requires 2 recommendations from faculty and/or extern program.
Skills/Experience:
Dermatology office experience preferred.
Possess knowledge of approved medical abbreviations and correct spelling of the English language.
Ability to work with non-cooperative patients, patients with psychosocial problems and needs, or chronic and acute health problems.
Ability to adapt to various work assignments.
Possess good customer service skills and exceptional telephone etiquette.
Previous computer experience helpful.
Environmental/Working Conditions: Ability to work in an environment with exposure to potentially dangerous/infectious materials and situations that require following extensive safety may be required and/or hours may be shortened as business needs dictate.
Physical Demands: Ability to perform moderate physical activity. May require handling/lifting of children/objects (up to 25 pounds) or standing/sitting/walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Prolonged use of telephone may be required.
