JOB SUMMARY
The Boiler Chief A is responsible for maintaining and monitoring all boilers, cooling towers, chiller systems, reverse osmosis, water filtration systems, compressed air, *CO2 plant, and waste pre-treatment operations and equipment. They must train and closely monitor all team members on the proper operation of the boiler system, *CO2 plant, and water chemistry. POET bioprocessing facilities operate on a 24-hour continuous schedule. Boiler Chief must be available as needed for any boiler issues trouble shooting.
DURING A TYPICAL DAY
• Maintain all boiler, cooling tower, reverse osmosis, water filtration, compressed air, *CO2 plant, and waste pre-treatment operations equipment.
• Be legally responsible for the boiler and its operation under their license.
• Be responsible for all Preventative Maintenance (PM) scheduling and compliance that relate to water systems, cooling tower, RO, water filtration, compressed air, *CO2 plant, and waste pre-treatment equipment to all state and federal regulations.
• Ensure timely completion of and inspection issues and ensure completion of all state annual inspections.
• Be responsible for any FM Global inspection findings and resolution with these areas.
• Conduct technical and safety training for boiler staff and document boiler staff hours working on the boiler.
• Ensure adequate staffing is available to run the boiler and *CO2 plant.
• Be responsible for training and tracking boiler/plant technicians to obtain the proper licensure.
• Be responsible for water system cooling tower, RO etc…and water testing and documentation.
• Be responsible for overall maintenance of the plant when boiler activities are not pressing.
• Be responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, sanitation, and regulatory compliance of the *CO2 plant.
• Contact contractors and vendors directly when needed to assist in troubleshooting and maintaining bioprocessing equipment.
• Test and maintain proper water chemistry in the boiler, cooling tower, and chiller systems.
• Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
• Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.

*CO2 responsibilities are for those sites that capture CO2 for resale.
STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
• High school diploma or equivalent required; secondary education preferred.
• Minnesota Chief A Class boiler engineer license and 2 years of turbine experience required.
• 5 years of experience maintaining boiler and cooling tower operations including water chemistry testing experience required.
• Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations for both construction and manufacturing environments.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to embrace change.
• You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You’re capable of learning new programs.

• This position is largely self-directed and requires a thorough understanding of company policy, procedures, and values. Team members will be required to adhere to all safety requirements at all times and in all work environments. This position is exposed to work in multiple environments, including plant, laboratory, as well as an office environment. The team member may be exposed to high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, internal and external temperature/weather conditions, and chemicals.
• Due to the physical and safety sensitive nature of this job, you will be subject to a physical and expected to pass a drug screen during the pre-screen process. During employment, you’ll be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
• This role has some physical requirements that our team members will need to be able to perform, such as: • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, self-contained breathing system, hazardous material suit, hearing protection, and harness.
• Working at extreme heights (approximately 150 ft), in confined spaces, and in extreme temperatures from -20 to +100 degrees Fahrenheit, both indoors and outdoors.
• Must be able to use the following equipment/tools, with training provided (not all encompassing): ladders, welding equipment, press, power washers, various hand tools, shovels, forklift, dollies, pulley hoist, overhead hoist, and bandsaw.
• Continuously: • Climb stairs
• Walk indoors and outdoors, sometimes over rough, uneven, or wet surfaces
• Frequently: • Be in awkward back, shoulder, wrists, and hand positions
• Bend forward while standing
• Reach overhead
• Pull up to 40lbs
• Kneel and crouch for up to 15 minutes at a time
• Occasionally: • Pull up to 95lbs, with or without assistance
• Lift and carry up to 50lbs, with or without assistance
• Grip with a force of up to 80lbs
• Sit for 15 minutes on a stool, sometimes rotation sitting
• Pinch with a force of 20lbs
• Push up to 20lbs
