A role with the Design team means a big opportunity to start from scratch and create something truly original. Are you a design expert who can support your business by staying one step ahead of industry trends, new materials and techniques? Can you demonstrate the utmost attention to detail and create products that are unprecedented in the marketplace for their design and quality for the price? Then you’ll have success on our Design team which owns the design and development of all Target-owned brands, from apparel to home goods, and beauty to essentials. In close partnership with our merchant and sourcing counterparts, you’ll drive brand cohesion and continuity, ensuring that our products meet the merchant line plans, assortment strategies, price points and overall creative direction.
As a Designer, you will be responsible for designing Target Owned Brand home décor products. Guided by a Design Leadership team, you will work across home décor categories including Decorative Accessories and Wall Decor in close partnership with the Brand and Concept team. You will be expected to maintain a diligent approach to workload, which includes timely communication with internal and external partners, and managing your own calendar and process. You’ll interpret trend and brand concepts and drive a design vision throughout the product development process: market and consumer research, identifying user needs and market opportunities, formulating a strategy, selecting material, color, artwork and finish, and designing beautiful, inspiring and unique product collections. Using CAD/3D/AI renders/hand sketches, you’ll translate ideas into product design direction. This includes preparing and professionally presenting visual boards that bring the design vision and strategy to life. In addition, you will collaborate with many design and non-design partners to maintain overall creative direction, ensure brand consistency, and successfully fulfill business objectives. In partnership with technical designers/engineers, buyers and sourcing colleagues, you’ll also identify, troubleshoot and resolve product issues.

About you:
• Four-year degree in Design, Fine Art or related field, or equivalent experience
• 4+ years of relevant experience in product design and development
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite programs, especially Illustrator and Photoshop
• Excellent sketcher with experience in CAD illustration or 2D/3D software and rendering tools
• Knowledge/Interest in AI design tools
• Knowledge of and ability to design with a variety of soft and hard materials
• Have a strategic and business-oriented mindset
• Experience assimilating product feedback
• Motivated and self-directed with minimal supervision needed
• Highly collaborative and able to successfully work in a team environment
• Ability to respond to business objectives with creative, original and cost-effective design solutions.
• Strong aptitude for trend and design; demonstrated high taste level; knowledge of design history and interior design; creative abundance
This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
