Do you have a background working in water treatment plant facilities management? In this role, as an operations manager, you are responsible for the daily management, administrative, and technical functions associated with the operation and maintenance of the water distribution system including water storage, pumping systems, and related appurtenances.  Apply today!
• Manage the daily operation of regional water treatment facilities, water storage, pumping facilities, and water production well facilities to ensure safe, compliant operations and maintenance.
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with the regulatory requirements and industry standards for multiple facilities.
• Prepare and administer facilities budgets and associated reports required for proper operation of facilities.
• Review operational data and trends.
• Maintain communication with the public, including answering inquiries and resolving problems.
• Supervise and direct the water production staff within Utility Operations.
• Coordinate and consult with project manager(s) and consultants during related CIP projects.
• Oversee preventative maintenance program for all aspects of treatment and facility which include, but are not limited to regional treatment facilities, water storage, pumping systems, deep injection-well facilities, and related appurtenances.
• Ensures compliance with county, state, federal, and OSHA regulations; coordinates use of external resources/vendors.
• Preparation of budget and revenue projections pertaining to the assigned treatment facility and management of facility budgets.
• Procurement management for goods and services in accordance with County guidelines and practices.
• Direct the performance of gathering of samples and appropriate tests in accordance with approved procedures.
• Prepare and submit weekly operation and maintenance summaries for presentation at weekly staff meetings.
• Prepare and implement the required Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs) associated with the operations of water production facilities and their supporting facilities (i.e. storage tanks, pump stations, etc.).
• Develop staffing plans to justify the required resources to meet both regulatory requirements and to meet the established level of service to the customers in Sarasota County.
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., *On-Call Required.
About You
Minimum Qualifications:
• A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a physical or natural science, engineering, business administration, or a highly related field AND four (4) years of job-related experience in the water treatment field.
• -OR- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university AND six (6) years of job-related experience in the water treatment field.
• -OR- Professional-related experience may substitute for the required degree on a year-for-year basis.
• Two (2) years or more of supervisory experience in the water treatment field.
• Must obtain a valid Florida DEP Class "A" Water Treatment Plant Operator's License from the State of Florida within twelve (12) months from the date of hire.
• A valid Florida Driver's License at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Training in physics, hydraulics, mechanical construction and maintenance, electrical/electronics theory and maintenance, and computer software applications.
• Experience working in operations, maintenance, repair, and process strategies relating to advanced water treatment, water storage, solids handling, effluent injection wells, pumping systems, and laboratory management.
• Understanding of budget-related tasks and procurement management as they apply to utility operations.
Physical Demands:
• May occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

Starting Pay Range:  $74,484.80 - $83,000.00/ annually, based on experience
