Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
The Research Development Coordinator will play a crucial role in supporting and advancing the research initiatives in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. This position supports the planning and execution of major proposal efforts and training grants while promoting integrated, collaborative and team research across all Franklin College disciplines and with outside and external affiliates and community stakeholders. The coordinator will collaborate with the Associate Dean for Research, Scholarship and Partnership and other members of the Dean's Office to identify and advance the College's research strengths and priorities; conduct intelligence and information gathering to assess the feasibility of proposal ideas; and monitor and track trends and seek out funding opportunities that align with Franklin College's faculty teams. This position will supervise other staff as this team grows.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in research administration, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
• Fundamental knowledge of federal funding agency requirements, preferably within a university setting.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and ethical standards in research.
• Ability to exercise independent analysis and judgment in accordance with broad principles, practices, and professional standards related to research development and administration.
• Capability to understand, analyze, and provide direction to others regarding external (e.g., federal government, funding agencies) and internal (university) policies and procedures related to compliance and responsiveness.
• Excellent time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

• Completes required components of large, complex proposals.
• Collect, edit and critically review:
• Biographical sketches
• Current and pending support forms
• Conflict of interest forms
• Facilities statements
• Letters of collaboration
• Other documents as determined by proposal instructions
• Utilizes independent judgment and best practices in proposal development and administration.
• Adheres to proposal preparation timelines and compliance requirements.
• Shares responsibility to ensure all required documents are complete and compliant prior to proposal deadlines.
• Collaborates with faculty, Franklin's Research Enterprise Support Team staff and administrators both within and outside Franklin College (e.g., other departments, other universities, industry contacts, community partners) to complete proposal application deliverables.
• Serve as primary Point-of-Contact for sponsoring agencies, including reporting, and relationship cultivation and maintenance.
• Manages multiple overlapping high-priority projects with short deadlines.
• Demonstrates responsibility, organization, and attention to detail.
• As needs grow, this position will supervise a small group of employees
• Management and coordination support for training programs.

• Engages in and contributes to proposal development activities, including:
• Conducting background research and analysis
• Fostering collaborations and teams
• Generating and strategizing project ideas
• Developing budgets
• Investigates potential sources of external funding and funding trends, with a focus on federal funding agencies.
• Oversees distribution of funding opportunities relevant to faculty and faculty teams within Franklin College through a monthly email newsletter from the Associate Dean for Research, Scholarship and Partnership.
• Project management for new UGA research initiatives and externally funded major programs through their launch phase, including Strategic Initiative Institutes.
