Rank will be determined based on applied educational development experience. The successful candidate will collaborate extensively with faculty, academic staff, and students to assist faculty and academic staff with their development of signature pedagogies that align with The Furman Advantage (TFA) and Furman’s Strategic Plan. We seek applicants with diverse perspectives who will foster innovation in our program portfolio and provide a rich and varied educational experience for our academic community.This full-time, 12-month staff position reports directly to the Mary Seawell Metz ‘8 Executive Director of the Faculty Development Center/Associate Dean for Faculty Development.Job Description:Duties and Responsibilities:Collaborate with the Executive Director and the FDC Advisory council (known at Furman as the “FDC Brain Trust”) to design evidence-based interactions and programs, measure program quality, and continually improve the FDC’s quality and campus reputation in alignment with Furman’s trategic vision and priorities.Consult with individual faculty and groups to understand academic needs in curriculum, technology, and methods and provide evidence-based strategies and just-in-time resources to address those needs, specifically those related to generative AI (GenAI).Design, deliver, and assess value-added, evidence-based, responsive workshops, short courses, and programming for faculty and instructional staff.Create and make available digital just-in-time tools for the FDC website and Moodle online repository.Collaborate with the FDC Programs Coordinator to coordinate valuable communication with faculty, staff, and community members via established channels (newsletter, email, socials, website).Collaborate with Furman faculty, academic staff, and the FDC team to generate successful extramural funding proposals.Collaborate with interdisciplinary faculty and academic staff on Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) projects.Present and/or publish research related to student learning, organizational development, or educational development.Supervise staff and student colleagues as the FDC continues to evolve.Teach or co-teach courses that incorporate high-impact experiences for students (up to 1/year).Required Qualifications:A terminal degree in respective academic field.Significant teaching and/or peer facilitation experience at the college/university level.Knowledge of current educational development issues and innovations, instructional technologies, inclusive pedagogy, and GenAI.Skills and/or experience that contribute to SoTL work including research design, quantitative, and/or qualitative skills, conducting interviews or focus groups.Backward design experience at the course, multi-course and/or program-level.Experience in guiding faculty to assess teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes.An inclusive approach to the work, evidenced by active listening, consistent follow-up communication, intellectual curiosity, and adaptability.Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills to engage effectively across a range of colleagues and stakeholders.Preferred Qualifications:A PhD in any discipline, especially those in natural, behavioral, or social sciences with experience in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods research projects.Team development and management experience. Demonstrated expertise with GenAI in teaching and learning.A record of SoTL presentation, publication, and/or project development/consultation.Proficiency in classroom/education technologies.Successful grant-writing experience.Furman University is a selective private liberal arts and sciences college committed to helping students develop intellectually, personally, and interpersonally and providing the practical skills necessary to succeed in a rapidly-changing world.
