Duties/Responsibilities

Plan and execute the experiments to genetically map the QTLs for traits of importance and perform genotyping or sequencing analysis of the populations, and perform genotyping for molecular breeding

Develop phenotyping methods and conduct phenotyping for the traits of importance in greenhouse or field environments

Perform statistical analyses of genotyping and phenotyping data; interpret the results; publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, present at conferences, and contribute to developing research proposals to secure external funding.

The individual at this position will function as an integral member of a team to conduct research in soybean breeding, genetics and genomics. Our research is focused on: 1) developing high-yielding soybean cultivars with herbicide tolerance, enhanced seed composition, insect and pathogen resistance, 2) Exploring QTLs for traits of interest in soybean such as disease and insect resistance, abiotic stress tolerance, and seed composition using genome-wide associate study or bi-parent mapping approaches, 3) identifying markers or haplotypes for precision marker-assisted selection, 4) Employing molecular breeding techniques to strategically pyramid or introgress QTL/genes into elite soybean germplasm, and 5) Implementing genomic selection/prediction methodologies to enhance soybean yield.
The individual will be responsible for genotyping, molecular breeding and QTL discovery in the laboratory, as well as developing or implementing phenotyping methods for traits of interest in greenhouse or field settings. They will analyze and interpret data, draw conclusions, and contribute to the publication of findings in scientific journals.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification In Position
Hold a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Genetics or a related field, demonstrating significant expertise in marker/QTL discovery and molecular breeding. Preferred qualifications include a background in statistical analysis of sequencing, marker, and field data.
Profound organizational capabilities and meticulous attention to detail; Strong proficiency in written and verbal communication skills; and ability to thrive in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
Knowledge of operating farm equipment with basic understanding of equipment maintenance and will define work priorities and meet timelines. Demonstrated ability to pay attention to details, take initiatives, follow experimental protocols. Communicate effectively, both written and oral and to work effectively in a team setting.
Physical Demands
Working in the field and greenhouse. Working in extreme heat and extra hours during the peak season. Driving.
