About The College/Unit/Department
Founded in 1937, the Lamar Dodd School of Art is one of the largest university art programs in the nation, with more than 1100 art majors and minors across 13 areas of undergraduate and graduate study. The world-renowned faculty promote an atmosphere of inclusiveness, experimentation, innovation, creative inquiry, and scholarship.
The School is organized into 13 areas: Art Education, Art History, Ceramics, Painting and Drawing, Fabric Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Jewelry and Metalwork, Photography, Printmaking, Scientific Illustration, Sculpture, and Studio Core. In addition to curricular breadth at the undergraduate level, the School offers five graduate degrees in three disciplines: studio art, art education, and art history. The School attracts highly qualified and talented students who are seeking to study art at a major research university. The faculty is made up of nationally and internationally recognized artists and scholars who promote an atmosphere conducive to experimentation, innovation, creative inquiry and scholarship. In addition to impressive on-campus facilities, the school also has vibrant off-campus experiential learning programs. The School sponsors a three-week Maymester program in New York City, along with a study-abroad program in Cortona Italy that offers full studio facilities and many of the of the same courses taught on the Athens campus.
The School is housed in five different facilities on campus, including a recently completed contemporary art gallery, the Athenaeum. Position Summary
The School of Art at the University of Georgia seeks a Studio Art Technician for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty appointment. The appointment may begin as early as January 1, 2025.
This position is an essential member of the Dodd Studio Support team and serves to manage various aspects of UGA’s Studio Art facilities including maintaining safe and smooth operation of studio facilities in a wide range of media, digital labs, safety protocols, hazardous waste, building equipment, inventory control and renovation/expansion projects. As one of two Art Studio Technicians in the School, this position will be directly responsible for supporting the School’s three-dimensional studios inclusive of sculpture, ceramics, jewelry and metals, interior design, and the three-dimensional studios of the Core program. The position includes supervising graduate assistants, lab monitors, and work-study positions and will be responsible for training supervisees, students, and faculty on the tools and technology of the facilities.
The successful candidate will also respond to studio support needs for the School via a Dodd Studio Support ticket system within the school’s website. This includes working closely with UGA’s FMD (Facility Management Division) for facility maintenance, repairs and renovation requests. As a member of the Studio Support team, this position will work closely with other faculty and administration to initiate and organize annual proposals which address needs for physical improvements and technology deficiencies within the School of Art.
The position will include teaching 1-3 classes per year.

Candidates without a terminal degree must document exceptional accomplishments in their respective field and must be approved for a terminal degree exception before hire.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, And/or Certification
An MFA degree is preferred.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
• Possess technical competency working within the field of art, including the ability to operate, maintain, and repair a wide range of tools and equipment associated with traditional and digital art making processes.
• Ability to teach courses in one or more of the School’s three-dimensional studio fields inclusive of jewelry, ceramics, interior design, and/or sculpture.
• Demonstrated capacity to manage and operate three-dimensional studio facilities, including a ceramics studio, wood shop, metal fabrication shop, jewelry metals shop, foundry, computer lab and computer aided design technology.
• Knowledge about current and upcoming trends in digital technologies desired, as well as current software including Adobe Suite, Rhino, ZBrush, SketchUp, etc.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and management skills, problem analysis and problem-solving skills, and ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff, and students.
• Ability to track and manage studio financials.
• Ability to work independently with attention to details.
