The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics is home to 28 faculty members with more than 350 students in programs of study at the B.S., M.A.B, M.S., and Ph.D. levels. Position Summary
The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at the University of Georgia seeks to recruit an Economic Impact Analysis Specialist in a field related to agricultural and/or natural resource economics, community development, or business, broadly defined.
Responsibilities
This is a 75% public service and 25% teaching appointment, and the candidate will be responsible for county, state, and industry-specific economic analysis with a primary focus on the agricultural and hospitality sectors in Georgia. Major responsibilities will include:
• creating annual state-level economic impact reports including Ag Snapshots analyzing the impact of the agricultural industry in Georgia and the Hospitality and Travel Economic Snapshots analyzing the impact of Georgia’s 2nd-largest state industry,
• creating annual county-level economic impact reports for the different major agricultural commodities in Georgia and the hospitality industry,
• create annual state-level and county-level reports analyzing trends in economic impacts, industry patterns, socio-demographic shifts, and other effects on community economic development,
• lead grant and contract work focused on economic impact analysis for regional and community development planning,
• contribute to grants in the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences by serving as the economic impact analysis specialist,
• coordinate, develop, and deliver training and education programs for food and fiber-related agribusiness enterprises, the hospitality industry, and county Extension agents across the state, and
• data collection, analysis, and dissemination of information on issues affecting food and fiber or related business enterprises, commodity groups, or economic development entities. The teaching appointment is expected to translate to teaching two regular courses per academic year.
Preferred Requirements
Additional Requirements Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Applied Economics, Environmental Economics, Business, or closely-related field is preferred.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
Strong knowledge of economic impact methods and tools (like IMPLAN) is preferred. The position requires an individual who is a strong self-starter, with excellent oral and written communication skills, and a record of creating reports and executive summaries that are approachable to a broad audience. Preferred qualifications also include: (1) the potential to build an outstanding record of outreach related to economic impact analysis, and (2) readiness to build an excellent graduate and undergraduate student teaching and mentoring record.
