The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, its many units, and the University of Georgia are committed to sustaining a work and learning environment that is inclusive.
The UGA Department of Dance, within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, offers the A.B. degree with an option of teacher certification and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance. Students also may elect a Double Dawg degree, earning a master’s degree in Non-Profit Management with an additional year of study. Dance Internships and Study Abroad experiences are also offered. Currently, three tenure-track, two Lecturers, and additional adjunct faculty and staff serve undergraduate dance majors, dance minors, and 600-800 other university students each year. Department supported performances include UGA Dance Company, Black History Month Celebration, Young Choreographers Series, Ballroom Performance Group, and others. Annual performances are held in the New Dance Theatre, a flexible theatre space in the Dance Building. A terminal degree (MFA or PhD degree) or professional equivalent in Dance or related field.
Position Summary
The UGA Department of Dance invites applications for a 9-month Assistant Professor tenure-track faculty position specializing in ballet beginning August 1, 2025.
Responsibilities
• Teach undergraduate courses in all levels of ballet technique, pointe, and related theory.
• Additional departmental responsibilities may include choreographing for mainstage productions, supervision of dance production courses, directing dance concerts, recruitment activities, academic advising, and others as assigned.
• As the University of Georgia is a leading research university, tenure track faculty are expected to develop a creative and/or scholarly research program that will lead to regional, national, and/or international prominence. Areas of research could include but are not limited to choreography, restaging, performing, scholarly research/publication related to areas above, or production of digital dance media.
Additional Requirements
• Candidates without a terminal degree will also be considered and must document exceptional professional accomplishments in Dance as well as be approved for a terminal degree exception before hire.
• Two years university teaching experience.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
• Professional expertise in ballet technique and related areas.
• Demonstrated engagement in creative activity and/or scholarly research.
• It is preferred that the candidate possess the ability to teach and develop coursework in the field of Dance Science, Health, and Wellness, mentor students in these areas, and support the Department of Dance in developing a certificate program in this area of specialization.
