About The College/Unit/Department
Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant provides integrated research, education and extension programs that foster the responsible use of Georgia’s coastal resources by individuals, decision-makers and management agencies.
Our program is managed through a federal-state partnership between the University of Georgia (UGA) and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Sea Grant College Program, a national network of 34 Sea Grant programs located in coastal and Great Lakes states and territories.
Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant’s mission is to improve the environmental, social and economic health of the Georgia coast through research, education and extension.

The Marine Debris Outreach Internship is hosted at the UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium near Savannah, Georgia, and cannot be accomplished virtually.
This internship is intended for undergraduate or graduate students with an interest in pursuing a career in marine education or related field.
This internship will provide programming and outreach based on the subject of marine debris at local schools and afterschool programs, within the UGA Aquarium and at regional coastal outreach events from Brunswick, GA to Beaufort, SC. The goal of this program is to teach about the negative impacts of marine debris and encourage community members to take part in stewardship activities that directly connect individuals to the coastal zone and marine environment.
Maximum of 19/hours per week for a total of 14 weeks between the dates of September 1 – December 31, 2024
Objectives
• Engage community members, families and youth with tabling activities and science based hands-on lesson plans
• Utilize skills and knowledge gathered during undergraduate/graduate studies
• Work in an environment conducive to learning and professional growth
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification In Position
• Pursuing education degree and/or has interest in environmental education as a career
• Has experience working with youth audiences
• Intern must be currently enrolled in accredited college/university
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Valid driver’s license
• Frequent travel and the ability to drive a state vehicle will be required.
Physical Demands
• Physical ability to work outdoors in ambient conditions and lift objects up to 50 lbs
