Technical Writer and Editor
Wilson & Company is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Technical Editor to join our Funding & Grant Administration team. The ideal candidate will have a background in technical editing, particularly within the engineering industry, and will possess strong project management and research skills. As a Technical Editor, you will be responsible for reviewing, editing, and formatting a variety of technical documents to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency. Your role is critical in helping produce high-quality deliverables for internal and external stakeholders, including grant applications, technical reports, and other documents.
Essential Job Functions
• Assist in the research, preparation, and review of state and federal grant applications, ensuring compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations.
• Coordinate with the project team to gather necessary information for grant submissions and ensure all documentation is complete and accurate.
• Review, edit, and proofread a variety of technical documents, including grant applications, engineering reports, manuals, specifications, and others as needed.
• Refine technical team content into clear, persuasive language tailored for grant applications.
• Ensure consistency in terminology, style, and formatting across all documents.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and technical writers to produce clear, concise, and accurate content.
• Edit documents for grammar, punctuation, and adherence to company and industry standards.
• Maintain and update document templates, style guides, and best practices for technical writing and editing.
• Manage multiple editing projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines.
• Provide recommendations for improving document quality and clarity.
• Stay informed on current industry standards, guidelines, and trends, particularly in the areas of engineering and government grant applications.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Engineering, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in technical editing.
• Strong understanding of technical terminology and the ability to interpret, summarize, and/or outline complex engineering documents.
• Exceptional grammar, proofreading, writing, and editing skills.
• Familiarity with style guides (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style, Associated Press Stylebook) and the ability to adapt to custom guidelines.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and document management systems.
• Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and InDesign a plus.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Experience with state and federal grant applications is highly desirable.

Annual Salary Range: $39,780.00 - $75,140.00 (Depending on Experience)
