About the Position
The Manager, National Events (Commencement) plays a critical role in the orchestration of one of the most significant milestones in the lives of our students – graduation. The individual plans, coordinates and executes multiple aspects of the University’s commencement ceremonies (in-person, virtual or a combination), ensuring a memorable and meaningful experience for graduates, their families, faculty, staff, and guests. The individual, in partnership with National Events Team members, oversees and coordinates logistical aspects, such as venue selection and set-up, vendor selection, budget management, and stakeholder collaboration, to ensure seamless event execution. The Manager, National Events (Commencement) contributes to commencement-related marketing and communication efforts to promote commencement details effectively to various audiences. The individual participates in the evaluation of each commencement’s success, makes recommendations for appropriate enhancements and/or revisions, and provides support as needed for all events managed by the National Events team.
What You’ll Do:
1. Implement a comprehensive event management plan for some aspects of commencement ceremonies, including scheduling, logistics, budgeting, staffing, guest management, and contingency planning.  Identify potential risks and challenges associated with commencement ceremonies and develop and implement effective risk mitigation strategies to ensure the safety, security, and success of all participants.
2. Ensure adherence to established protocol and etiquette guidelines for commencement ceremonies, including processionals, seating arrangements, academic regalia, and seating arrangements.
3. Coordinate guest speakers for commencements, including some logistical aspects such as travel, security, and communication.
4. Assist with onsite event set up and tear down as necessary, which includes lifting of up to thirty (30) pounds, bending, and standing for extended periods of time.
5. In partnership with members of the National Events Team, collaborate with University leadership, academic departments, student organizations, alumni relations, and external partners to ensure alignment of commencement activities with University priorities and mission.
6. Execute comprehensive communications and marketing strategies to promote commencement ceremonies, engage stakeholders, and provide timely and relevant information to graduates and their families. Provide clear direction and accessibility accommodations to ensure a positive and seamless experience for commencement guests.
7. Train, and supervise a team of staff who have volunteered to assist at ceremonies/activities and vendors responsible for supporting commencement ceremonies, ensuring high standards of professionalism, customer service, and efficiency.
8. Provide support and organization as needed for all events managed by the National Events team, ensuring seamless execution and delivery.
9. Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Event Management, Communications or related field
• Six (6) years of experience in event planning, with a proven track record of successfully managing complex events from conception through completion
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• Previous experience planning and executing commencements
• Certification in Event Management or related field
• Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Experience working in a higher education or academic setting
• Familiarity with protocol and etiquette standards for formal events
• Experience developing and implementing marketing strategies for events
• Knowledge of risk management principles and practices

Pay Range
The annual pay range for this position is $54,400 (minimum), $81,200 (midpoint), and $108,000 (maximum).*
*Typical hiring range is between the minimum and midpoint of the above pay range. Actual starting base pay may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, location and budget.
