Job Summary Performs designated duties to assist the department staff in the areas of patient care and departmental and equipment orderliness and cleanliness. # Job Responsibilities Assists nurses and techs with the set up of a Surgical procedures, including but not limited to Cardiovascular, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic, Robotic, Plastics, Bariatrics, and General to include trauma for all specialties. Identifies more than 100 pieces of equipment, including but not limited to fracture tables, positioning devices, cautery devices, tourniquets, lasers, fluid management devices, and blood management devices. Cleans the operating rooms (OR) between surgical cases and maintains the proper set up for the next procedure including but not limited to cleaning contaminated bed and equipment, cleaning contaminated rooms from infectious disease patients, cleaning and removing equipment no longer needed, bagging up all dirty linen and disposable trash, transporting all soiled linen and trash to soiled utility room, running all bags of soiled linen and trash through the x-ray machine to look for any instruments/supplies. Uses critical thinking to determine the highest level of importance and proper response of multiple work alerts of: Routine Turnover, MRSA/MDRO Turnover, VRE/NF Turnover, CDiff Turnover, TB Turnover, CJD Turnover, Mask Turnover, Move Clean, Position Help, PCT Routine, PCT Stat, Call Me, Code Blue and Staff Assist. Assists the OR physicians and nurses with positioning patients for complex procedures that require positioning aids and a knowledge base of proper body mechanics and range of motion. Transports patients from pre-op areas to line/block and assists the nurse in transporting critical patients to the OR from the Emergency Department. Understands and utilizes basic sterile technique and OSHA requirements when coming into an OR to assist the team with positioning or equipment, including but not limited to recognizing sterile fields, recognizing when masks are required when entering an OR room for turnover on vascular and craniotomy cases, and also positioning a patient at the beginning of a case. Assists with maintaining inventory supplies. Coordinates supply deliveries of cleaning solutions, trash bags, microfibers, etc. from materials management. Prepares and has knowledge of the OR specialty beds and all OR equipment. Understands the functions, how to apply and dismantle the accessories for the specialty beds, assembling OR equipment and ensures it is functioning properly - beach chairs, Jackson Table and Hana Table. Maintains surgical equipment, including but not limited to emptying and cleaning the Neptunes, taking beds apart, and suction cannisters/machines. Transports surgical specimens to pathology, lab, or blood bank. Utilizes safe lifting techniques and appropriate assistive devices. Cleans and maintains entire Restricted and Semi Restricted work areas. Qualifications High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or higher required upon hire No experience required BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position Skills and Attributes Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment. Works under minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Learning and applies knowledge at a basic level relying heavily on senior staff for troubleshooting.
