Freight Specialist
We are seeking for a dedicated and detail-oriented transportation specialist to join our dynamic team. This position is crucial in managing VELUX truckload and quoted shipments; both Residential and Commercial between (to and from) VELUX facilities and be able to provide ETA and delivery information to the Distribution Centers, Customer Service department, Commercial Sales department, and procurement. The role also requires establishing carrier relationships. The position must provide superior customer service and is responsible for shipping VELUX products in a cost effective and timely manner.
Primary Functions
Sourcing carriers, will include daily bids, based on quality service and price.
• Freight quoting for volume Commercial and VMS shipments (LTL, volume, flatbeds & Truckloads) from the Central DC to end customers and/or other production facilities (i.e.; Wells and Sparks)
• Manage and assist with freight quoting larger palletized residential skylight orders delivering to dealers or job sites
• Work with Inventory Control department to schedule the VELUX shipments from the Central Distribution Center to the Regional Distribution Centers
Provide freight estimates for future shipping as needed.
Build relationships with carriers.
• Ensure carriers follow agreed processes
• Identify issues, and recommendations for improvement
• Excellent communication is required for loads handled between internal customers and external vendors (carriers).
• Participate in carrier performance reviews
Provide on-time quality delivery of VELUX products to customers.
• Delivery performance knowledge
Assist and coordinate with Customer Service, to resolve shipment and delivery problems, such as:
• Obtain proof of deliveries
• Handle re-consignments
• Update SAP customer notes related to any changes in planned ship dates
• Coordinate with inventory control and customer service and/or commercial team should a ship date need to be changed due to customer request, or problem associated to the ship date
• Assist with the direction to initiate freight claims for distressed shipments, such as shortages, damages or other
Secondary Functions
Contacting Customers to verify delivery requirements or needs.
Auditing and/or approval of Freight Invoices via VFI.
Producing and reporting of carrier KPI’s.
Tracking and reporting of carrier delivery performance.
Creating and maintaining shared files in Microsoft Teams.
Ensure the correct weights and notes for shipping details are entered on all Commercial orders in SAP.
Updating Fuel Surcharges in Progistics (TMS) weekly.
Starting Hourly Wage: $22.13 - $27.66
Qualifications
• A minimum of an Associates degree is required.
• Minimum three years of experience in Freight Management, Logistics, or Supply Chain including negotiation is preferred.
• Knowledge of freight tariffs, accessorial charges and freight class is preferred.
• Position may require travel to regional Distribution Centers.
• A basic understanding of the VELUX product line is preferred.
• Applied computer skills in MS Office is required. A working knowledge of SAP would be beneficial.
• Must possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Must possess excellent organizational skills.
• Must present a positive and professional appearance.
• Must possess an overall good work record and desire to work in a team environment.
